Accessibility Review: As a frequent coffee shop studier, I enjoyed my time getting work done at Gata Magica Cafe and Lounge. As I worked and evaluated the accessibility of the establishment, I noticed upon entering that the tables and chairs on the first floor level are placed tightly together which may be difficult to maneuver around with a wheelchair or walker, especially when the walkway areas are crowded with customers. The upper level is more spread out and spacious, however, it is only accessible by stairs.
As for sensory elements, this coffee shop had a very relaxing atmosphere with a quiet noise level besides the occasional coffee machine sounds and low level of chatter. The lighting was also very relaxed and dim without any fluorescent lighting which helps to create a less stimulating atmosphere for those with sensory sensitivities.
While the menu display itself did not have braille or text reading abilities for the blind or visually impaired, the baristas were very helpful and I’m sure would happily assist a customer by reading the menu aloud if needed. They could make this even more accessible to people with vision impairments by adding an electronic menu option that is screen reader compliant. The pay station was a touch screen tablet and did not have screen reading capabilities that I was aware of, so this may also be difficult for those who are blind or visually impaired to process their payment and pick a tip option independently.
The bathroom had a door with a code lock which may be difficult for individuals who have difficulty with fine motor skills. However, once in the bathroom, there is plenty of space for maneuverability with support railings around the toilet. The sink is at a low enough height to be accessed by wheelchair, however, the soap and paper towels are much higher and would be difficult to reach from a sitting position. The toilet is a manual flush, helping to reduce unexpected sensory input of a loud, unexpected flush.
Overall, I understand that there are limitations on building structures on High Street, but this accessibility is important to consider and for potential disabled customers to...
Read moreI ordered through grubhub, so I did not have a complete experience. However, I am giving all 5's because it was simply that good.
This review is entirely from a quality and taste standpoint. I had a brigadiero mocha, carioca sandwich, and a cheese danish.
The mocha was exceptional, and it arrived at the perfect temperature. I've had a lot of mochas in my life, but this one is special, it has a strong and rich cocoa hit, not too sweet even though it has chocolate and sweetened condensed milk. Perfectly drinkable and delightful. Excellent for warming your bones on a cold morning.
The carioca sandwich was perfectly acceptable. It's the one thing I have a small gripe with. It said chicken so I assumed it would be a chunkier chicken instead of slices of deli chicken, but that's a small complaint and influenced by my assumptions so I don't think that's fair. Could be good though if they ever decide to change it. Still worth getting regardless. Sun dried tomato, chicken and spinach are a great combo.
Next the item I cannot possibly recommend enough, a true 15/10, the cheese danish. They could absolutely get away with selling a cold, mediocre store-bought danish, many do. But not this one, it was warm on arrival which already suprised me, with a little caramelization on the top. The pastry the filling was held it was a thick yet delicate, buttery puff pastry, it basically dissolves in your mouth. The filling itself has an initial flavor of vibrant sweetness followed by a rich warm creamy cheese. It is genuinely the best danish and possibly pastry I've ever had, and for me, it cements the màgica in the restaurant's name. You guys absolutely killed it, and i would order here every morning if I could.
Also, even with marked up food delivery prices it was cheap for the quality you recieve, which is a relief as things get more and more expensive. Thank you Gata Màgica! I will definitely stop by in person next time for...
Read moreStopped in with a friend after wanting to visit for quite a while, and I’m glad I did! I ordered a buckeye latte with oat milk, and the classic Gata Magica sandwich on an everything bagel. The latte was sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. The peanut butter flavor really came out, which I’ve not experienced with other peanut butter lattes from other shops! Perfectly balanced with the chocolate. I love that they offer iced drinks in a 12oz, I don’t see that often! The sandwich was amazing too! Perfectly crispy bagel and the “toppings” of the sandwich were portioned so well, very balanced. I also love that they serve the sandwiches on plates that match the color scheme of the shop. My friend got a French toast matcha which was amazing!! It really tasted like French toast, but was not overwhelmingly sweet. My only gripe is that they don’t accept cash. It was no problem for me personally, but being across from a college campus, I can see how that would be an issue for some. Overall, I will be back, that French toast matcha is...
