Breakfast review *
Saturday at 11am to let the early crowd get in and out. Nope. This campus gem was full of hungover students that waded through the neighborhood walk of empty cans and red solo cups. An 8 or 10 stairstep climb from the small metered lot. Concrete floors and bartop. That bar smell is undeniable. I was second guessing my adventure to try some special menu items. We sat at the bar. The bartender Jordan was doing double duty with the bar patrons and helping out at the service bar rush. So much booze, and shots going out, you would think it was a noon OSU home game. Jordan was quick, friendly, full of answers and suggestions. A plain OJ came in a pint. Generous and tasty.
The pork. When you look over the breakfast menu, the pork is the item that looks like they smoke, season and slow cook themselves. Unfortunately they buy it already shredded, and slow cook it for hours. That sounds precooked and slow soaked in a seasoned broth. Since I ordered the burrito subbing the pork for chicken, I got a taste. Tuna! I had to ask my wife to smell and taste the pork, to confirm a similarity to tuna. Maybe it was chicken. No, I do believe it was the pork. Other than the massive size and presentation, I found it mediocre. The same way a chipotle burrito is huge- stuffed with rice.
My wife had the smothered tot breakfast. Eggs, chorizo, and cheese. First thought was disappointment on the small 6” skillet size. By the end she was full though. She had several suggestions on a better execution of it, based on many experiences of trying others.
Bathrooms were standard campus expectations.
Nothing special to make me race the meter to eat my breakfast here. I would however recommend it to all the campus locals who want to walk over and drink &...
Read moreTL;DR; Rude waitress; sub-par cleanliness; won't be returning any time soon.
This was bizarre... We came in on a Saturday for a birthday brunch and decided to sit upstairs where it was quieter. The only table big enough for the 6 of us was dirty but we moved the glasses to another table and figured it wouldn't be a big deal for the waitress to give it a wipe down before we actually got food. We waited a while for service but were then brought menus and informed that there were clean tables downstairs. We said "Thanks, no thanks" and explained our reason. The waitress then returns and halfheartedly at best, wipes the table. There are still large sticky spots and crumbs at this point despite us lifting everything out of her way. When she brings water, mine tasted like bleach and another guest had a hand print of... tomato juice maybe? on her glass. At this point we decide we'd probably be happier elsewhere and begin to call to see if there's another place that can take us. The waitress comes to take our order and we apologetically inform her we won't be staying. In a huff, she grumps at us about making her come up and clean the table and being so rude to her. Another one of my party begins to argue and she doesn't back down. We left before the confrontation got any worse... We ended up at the crest, which is owned by the same people, and had -the nicest- waitress and...
Read moreWe just left your establishment. In town for the Buckeye game, we sought a non chain brunch restaurant. We sat at the bar and the girl that took care of us was very sweet. The restaurant was busy, and quickly cleared out after we ordered. We waited well over an hour for our food. It wasn't busy to justify such a wait. The food lacked foremost taste, secondly, presentation. We could have cared less about the presentation, had there been any taste. Clearly things have changed at the location as two regulars sat next to us and were very vocal about their displeasure with their meals. They stated their portion was half of it's normal size and lacking flavor. I could tell our server was extremely frustrated with whatever was going on in the kitchen. You have a cool location, a great vibe and what appears to be a solid menu. Saw no leadership presence on your floor. A manager should have been checking in with the guests and let them know why food was taking over an hour. Wishing you success, definitely take a look at what's going on. Clearly I'm not the only person that sees you have...
