I had been working in the basement of the former Long's Book Store [at 1836 N. High St.] while the Wexner Center for the Arts had been built during the late 1980s.
When the Wexner Center for the Arts had opened [during November 1989], the dominant marketing and branding theme for this world-class arts center had been "12¼°" because the "street grid" of Columbus [including N. High St.] is rotated 12¼° when compared with "true north" while the "street grid" of the OSU campus is exactly aligned with "true north."
The sidewalks on N. High St. in the OSU campus area have brick inlays that cross the sidewalk panels at a 12¼° angle when compared with the walking direction of that sidewalk. Now, many of those bricks have disappeared from the sidewalks with the result that the sidewalks along N. High St. in the OSU campus area contain many "trip hazards."
For the past thirty years, the Wexner Center for the Arts has hosted many innovative and high-quality art exhibitions, films, and...
Read moreI love the Wexner Center. My dad regularly took me as a kid in the early 90s and it was seminal in my identity. I took my two young children (at their request!) and it was great! Definitely the perfect size for kids.

We moved through the space pretty quickly and I was able to help explain the highlights in a kid-friendly way. The security guard at the back was the best and encouraged us to try the headphones and guided us towards some exhibits she thought the kids might like (they did!)
I also truly love the building. It's wild and the kids loved the narrow staircases. I had forgotten about the staircase to nowhere until my oldest ran into the plexi at the top. It instantly took me back to my childhood and I remembered how much I loved the birds eye...
Read moreThis is another good art museum in Columbus. They have rotating exhibits, some are better than others. Last summer they had an exhibit featuring the comic artist Dan Clowes creator of "Ghost World." Really cool to see his pencil drawings up close. Another exhibit I really enjoyed featured Brazilian artists. Some neat stuff. A recent exhibit this past May featured Fiber Art. I'll be frank I didn't really like this. Just was not that impressive, but to each his own.
Needless to say, this place is pretty great with changing exhibits. There's pretty cheap parking nearby. If you are a student you can get in free with your college id. You can be a student at any college,...
