Not only is this my and hubby's one of two favorite Greek restaurants in all of Columbus, but possibly one of my favorite Greek restaurants ever! In terms of price and value, though, Gyro City Grill wins hands down!
We don't eat here as often as we should, but given that there's a gyro place closer, we usually go there, instead. From now on, I say we just go here!
This recent visit, we got the dolmathes. Now, I'm really picky about them since a Persian friend makes the Persian version, dolmeh. And those are the absolute ever best! These dolmathes are super fat, filled mostly with meat, and don't have mushy rice! Flavorful! And really, really good even straight from the fridge! (Yeah, but more why they didn't get eaten right away, below!)
The large Greek fries are enough for four normal people. I kid you not! They are smothered in a garlicky cream sauce interspersed with an almost obscene amount of feta. So delicious - and an absolute steal at this price! Hubby and I ate these plus another order of regular fries (that came, apparently, with the meal).
[We didn't get the calamari this time, but when we do, it's very nicely browned and crisp.]
On top of that, I ate the small Greek salad. Except for the jalapenos, which I picked out, it was very good with and awesome dressing. The only complaint? One olive in the whole thing - and it had the pit in it.
The gyros themselves are meat filled. Like mostly meat! But perfectly seasoned with a nice tzatziki on them. Yum. Reasonably priced as well. Fat v. long, almost looking like a short super burrito.
Baklava is good - and not teeth achingly sweet, either.
The ability to drive in during the Times of COVID is great. However, the ambiance indoors pre- or post-COVID is more like a fast food joint, despite the people at the counter being responsive to questions etc.
In regard to the individual who said she had plastic in hers, I honestly can't say what happened - but in the 10 or so times we've gotten food here, it's never happened to us.
Sorry - no photos! Food was devoured in almost...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI went there today with a friend for lunch. It was one of the worst restaurant and customer service experiences with one of the best people. Unfortunate the food and service was terrible. The workers were so rude, short and acted so put out of their way when I asked them for simple things. For payment, I got in trouble for not putting my card up at the right time. And then when my friend went to the bathroom, she came back and asked for hand sanitizer since there was no soap in the bathroom (which is absolutely disgusting). Imagine all the gross particles on the door. So gross. Now onto the food, my sub was beyond gross. There was so much tzatziki sauce on it, it overpowered everything. It was on the outside of the bread, leaking out. I couldnāt even hold it. It got all over my hands, in my hair, etc. When I asked the workers for just another piece of bread so I could move the meat and cheese over, they acted like it was such a chore and would not do it. A kind customer who was in there recognized how rude they were, so she had to come up as well. They then proceeded to argue with her. They eventually remade the sub. When it was ready, they then ripped me a new one about how I need to be more specific and say exactly how much sauce I want. I have been to many places, many of them sub places and never once have I had to mention how much sauce I want. The workers were rude and the food was rude to my stomach. Absolutely horrible experience. I will never return. To any patrons who are going there in the future, Iāll be...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreTo begin with my review, i would highly recommend Google to have 0.5 sort of Rating like 3.5 or 4.5. Sometimes places are not really 4 or 5 full stars they are in between and each point matters. Anyhow moving on to my experience here, it was quiet average i have eaten better of this cuisine in columbus versus here. The gyro platter sandwich was same as Gyro On Rice, i was expecting some sort of a difference there. Although that one thing sort of ticket me off is gyro being served on plain white rice but it definitely had some flavor to it. Usually the rice is not just plain it is prepared Mediterranean style with vermicelli in it. Had i not seen 4 star rating to it i would have not entered this place considering i was not very picky today and wanted to just go in a restaurant which is good rated (at the least 4 star āļø). Below how i felt about everything here.
Gyro Platter Sandwich 3/5 (Comes with lettuce, onion , white sauce, Pita Bread and tomatoes) Gyro on rice 3/5 (comes with white rice and a half pita bread) Falafel (On a bed of lettuce and Banana Peppers)
One more thing i wanted to add here is their white sauce is delicious so maybe there is where an extra half star can be given. Final notes, Its a good place to be when in grove city and feel like Mediterranean/Greek but would not be the...
