This is by far one of the top 3 noodle places in Columbus.
Short review: The food is truly really amazing, atmosphere is modern, but the services is next level and honestly the best I've experienced in years!
Parking was ok, with many spots around the back of the building. We walked in with no reservations, and for certain party sizes (4 or more) you can get free a appetizer on most days. Portions are very filling! Prices are good.
Food: Easily in the top 3 best noodle places in Columbus for me (and there are quite a few to choose from). They truly build complex flavors into their ramen bowls, and start out with mostly chicken broth bowls as opposed to beef or pork which gives a lighter flavor allowing more complexity to it. Their sushi is not bad at all, but the star is definitely their variety of ramen. (We had the Ajo, and the Shio Ramen) Their Chicken Apps are excellent as well, and their sides are well flavored and prepared. My favorite drink would definitely be the Mango Smoothie, truly like no other I've had in a while (even compared to dedicated smoothie shops)
Service: This is where (for me) Kirin further sets themselves apart, since their service is impeccable! Our waitress was so very fast and efficient, and was always kind and made us feel super welcomed. She was ever attentive and ensured our needs were taken care of in a warm and wonderful way. And when we made special requests for the dishes or utensils, carryout bowls and cups, she was more than happy (and super fast) with the assistance. This is what service should look like, best I've had in a while!
Atmosphere: Modern, warm and welcoming. Semi quiet, but very close seating which lends itself well to the warm feel. Restrooms are well maintained as they should be.
Overall, this is now in my top 5 best ramen I've had, ever. And the number 1 place in service I've had the pleasure of experiencing in years. Will be visit again and again and...
Read moreService was great and the atmosphere was solid. Its pricey for what you get. I got the meatballs and they are just freezer meatballs In an overly sweet sauce and they were like $7-8. Not remotely worth it and such an easy item to make fresh. It all fell apart at the ramen. The noodles had no texture or bounce to them whatsoever. They were slimy mush. That was probably to counteract the raw vegetables in there. I cant even call them undercooked. Just raw hard to chew flavorless carrots and cabbage and green onion. I got their spicy miso and it had absolutely no flavor at all. Barely any spice and the miso broth was like water. The karage chicken was also pretty flavorless and had very little crunch to it. Im not the person who typically writes a review but honestly 3 bites into my ramen I just wished very much I wouldnt have spent almost $40 here and had went anywhere else. I came hungry and left hungry because I left almost all of my ramen behind. Id rather not eat then finish that ramen. For a place of this cost with noodles being their specialty I think they need to go back to the drawing board on their ramen because aside from everything else about this place being pretty great it may be the most lackluster bowl of...
Read moreI've had tomato ramen in Osaka, Japan. This tomato ramen was nothing like it. I felt like it was a bit overpriced but I expected that because I was ordering delivery and I got "extra pork." The description online said there was supposed to be chicken in it and I didn't receive any. I think they thought I was doing a substitute but I paid for extra in addition to what it ought to have had. Tasted more like the base to a minestrone soup than a super tomato-forward broth like I had when I studied abroad. Veggies were overcooked. It was just okay. I'd recommend eating there in person instead of DoorDashing it because it seems the meat in my order got bungled. The soft boiled egg and bamboo shoots were great.
We got soup dumplings, shrimp dumplings, and golden lava buns to share. I didn't like the soup dumplings. They were bland. The shrimp dumplings are decent but taste similar to ones I've had out of the freezer section of an Asian grocery store. The custard egg buns were good. I think if I went there then the next time I'd try the chashu pork buns and the tan tan men or...
