According to todays customer service, the "just say yes" policy no longer applies.
My wife mistakenly ordered the North Star burger *to go instead of the cheeseburger which is what I wanted ... yes, my wife also confirmed it was the northstar burger when she picked it up. We drove home and I realized it wasn't the cheeseburger ..
I wanted to call and let them know because North Star and their reputation would do the right thing and replace it. Most any restaurant would. I waited until the following day because I tried not to make my wife feel bad.
Initially I was told I would be refunded the money paid for the burger but I simply requested to have a voucher as I love the food and I'll be back sooner than later! I was placed on hold and then told "since you got what you ordered, there's nothing we can do for you"
Are. You. Kidding. Me.
So let's take another scenario. If I ordered the northstar burger and sat inside to eat it ... it shows up and "oh my goodness! I thought I ordered the cheeseburger!" What would the response be? "Well, you got what you ordered so there's nothing we can do for you" ? No. I'm almost 100% certain it would be taken back and corrected EVEN though yes it's my error. You have people coming in and out of your establishment paying $17!!!!!!!!!!!! For a burger... and you're telling me you're losing out by making something right for a (former) loyal customer? I worked in the food service industry for half my life and never was I ever told by management "tell them to buy the right thing"
My wife is 4 weeks postpartum ... she wanted to treat me to something nice and it slipped her mind. However, what won't slip my mind will be returning to any of your restaurants. Way to go below and...
Read moreI frequent Northstar regularly. Short north, Beechwold, Easton locations. I work by Easton and get lunch there 3-4 times a week. This review is for the Clintonville location. I ordered the fish sandwich and my wife the pimento cheese burger. I'm very familiar with how these things are cooked. My fish was over grilled dry at the edges and had a burnt grill flavor, I wasn't going to say anything and I asked my wife how she liked her burger. She told me it was burnt, I stopped overlooking things when she said that and saw that her burger was burnt. I told the waitress and she looked and confirmed it was burnt. The manager came over and said that he could not promise the burger will be cooked correctly because it's cooked on a flat grill!! Like I haven't had 50 burgers from Northstar, my daughter's junior cheese burger was cooked correctly. I informed him I'm not new to Northstar and never have had a burger like this, on top of that my fish was overcooked. He said he would have it remade, but not after making a lame excuse, he only stopped after I told him I come here all the time for 2 years. One thing I like about Northstar, Brassica, and 3rd and Hollywood is consistency in the food and customer service. He didn't even address my fish sandwich being not cooked correctly. Before we left I asked a waitress if there was new staff, she said yes, a lot of people quit and the manager was new to the location. The manager should have said sorry we have new cooks in the back and I'll make sure it's done right, instead he gave lame excuses. I'll go to the Short North location or Easton. I can't go back to Clintonville after that. It was a...
Read moreOverall, Northstar Café is 1 of my favorite places. It's got a great atmosphere. Fun place to dine, everything and everyone is typically very upbeat. They have an excellent kitchen system, excellent staffing workforce. Stations are manned and they keep things moving. They do make an effort to get the food out as quickly as possible and the quality is consistent. Typically, everything is delicious. In the years this Beechwold location has been open I've never had a bad meal. On the few occasions when something may have gone wrong, the mngr immediately offers a complimentary meal card (without any prompting). At least this has been my experience over the last 10-15 yrs at any NSC I've visited.
They are very accommodating as well. I went to place an online order right during that overlap time when they were switching from brunch to dinner. The mngr said if I come in they will definitely make me the brunch item I was craving. And they also made me a dinner item Thai burrito as well. I am sure this is why they keep their customers coming back for more. 😀
Over the years, and especially post-pandemic, menu items have gotten fairly pricey. First time I visited after things opened again, I suffered a bit of sticker shock. However, the quality and portions haven't been compromised, which is more valuable to me. You can lose customers by downgrading your food, cutting corners, using cheaper cuts of meat and ingredients. Or, adjust to the current state of affairs. I still have the same pleasure and satisfaction, and satiety eating their Thai burrito as I did back in 2020 😋☺☺ I guess...
