Had a wonderful walk through the park of roses. Memorial Day is an ideal time, lots of flowers in bloom with many buds showing there will be a long yield of flowers this year. Plenty of parking below the park, a dozen spots above the park. Nicely maintained. Water fountain in the center, as well as a metal gazebo with steps to take you up to a birds eye view of the flowers. I did not realize that there were so many shades of red, orange, yellow and white roses. Quite the imagery. Plenty of spots for formal or informal photo shoots. You will often see many people of all ages from all over the world speaking many languages as you stroll through the park. Mostly accessible with a slight uphill journey from below. No bikes or skateboards through this part of the park, they must be walked or carried through it. Below the roses is a nice enclosed shelter that can be reserved and hold at least 75. There are also non reservable, first come, first served open air pavilions with picnic tables. There are plenty of charcoal grill locations. I arrived around 4pm, but there were many grills already in use and the smells of grilled meats filled the air. There are also so soccer fields below and baseball fields...

The roses, the fountain, the variety of gardens and trails around them: these are the main reasons people list the Park of Roses as a great place to visit. Those are all part of the reasons I do as well, yet there are many more reasons. The majority of people visiting this garden are good folks who will smile at you regardless of who you are, where you're from, what you look like, etc. The roses bind us all; as long as you respect them, you are- in turn- respected. There are bags to bundle up the refuse your dogs leave behind, and they are welcome at the park as long as they are generally under control (leashed or well trained). There are areas to sit, so anyone can take in the beauty of the area. The path is mostly smooth, and wheelchair accessible, so anyone can easily visit it. Some of the roses are fragrant, but you'll only know if you stop to sniff them and admire their beauty close-up. They do a have a few port-a-johns around if you need a restroom. (Usually they have restrooms somewhat available at the main shelter house, but during the pandemic they've been closed off.) The roses bloom from early spring into the fall, but they are at their most beautiful and height of presence right now, in June....
