Food is good, but the prices are a little high.
I got the beef PHO with raw steak - I wish the steak was sliced a little thinner and not so well cooked. They put hot broth (or water?) in the bowl once, then drain it, and add hot broth again. This resulted in the noodles being a little overcooked.
Also, the broth seems a little thin, would like a richer and more complex flavor. Plus I don't think they put any crispy shallots?!?
I also wish there was slightly more protein, but, the $4.50 additional price for "extra meat" was just too much considering how much the soup costs to begin with. (And it looked like only a couple ounces, possibly even less 🤷🏻♂️)
I can get an amazing bowl of TONKOTSU RAMEN, in the Tokyo airport for substantially less money - why are prices so high here in the US?!?
Anyway, the the food is good and the only price that really upset me was the "Vietnamese Coffee" which was disappointing and thin - I do recommend trying this place for yourself at least once, and I will be going back - just not particularly often, unless they make some improvements.
I find myself coming here to 6-1-PHO because my old favorite PHO place in the North Market has really declined in both quality and value since the ownership changed several years ago - that place USED to be an easy five stars.
Update: currently, their prices don't seem so bad because prices at other places have gone up. However my earlier complaints about the beef being sliced too thick remain because it's not tender once it's cooked by the broth. Also, the broth is still a little disappointing - I had the beef broth and it just wasn't as satisfying as other Phos I've had. I think they should have a Vietnamese grandma come and teach them how to make it better perhaps? Maybe they need to use more beef bones? Perhaps a touch more fish sauce?
For sure the broth would need to be adjusted depending on whether the customer ordered it with raw beef vs with cooked & seasoned meat, maybe that was why it was lacking?
My friend said his cold noodle dish with chicken was very...
Read more10/10 chef's kiss 😚🤌🏽💋 been going here for YEARS! I've never ventured out too far when it comes to eating/trying foods other than what I was use to. I'll tell you this - what a mistake! First time I came here I ordered the Pho soup bowl w/everything, beef for the protein along with beef broth. I have never gotten anything different, since. The flavor is absolutely amazing. The bean sprouts give the soup a nice little crunch . Mouth watering & stomach growling typing this I do wish it came with a little more beef. I rip the pieces up so it last longer. It's $4.75 for added beef protein , a little high I think... The fresh ingredients are also a big plus! Certainly increases the taste. Love dining in , atmosphere is lovely, calm and not very loud (depending if it's super busy, the standing/sitting room isn't that big.) it is always very clean! obviously the wonderful aroma is an added bonus ; which I do believe is from the broth! As well as, it being made fresh. Ladddled from big ol pot to big bowl! Steaming hot ! 🍲 🥢 My husband has tried 2 of their "sandwiches/subs" - not sure what you'd call it - they weren't bad, but didn't make a big impression. The bun vs protein/veggie combo is off. Way too much bread of the little you get on it. My opinion it would be better with a pita or tortilla sort of wrap. They do seem to go light on the proteins with different items, I've noticed. Getting to-go is awesome too. Secured containers! Keep in the heat very well. + You get free Tupperware 😅 getting it to-go is just as good as dining in, as long as you get that broth still really hot. Thick brown paper bag to carry it. Offered/given spoon and chopsticks 🥢.
Always have had a lovely experience. Friendly workers. Great atmosphere.
Overall LOL great freaking place!! Wish there were more locations than just this one ! I'm scared to try anywhere else tho.
**Pics are from Jan 24' - ordering when they open tho 😂 I absolutely love the light fixture above the entry way! It looks like a bunch of little daisies!...
Read moreI’ve been coming here since they first opened. (25 minute drive) I’ve never had their Pho, only their Bahn Mi. Its one of the absolute best, except when it’s made by employees who either don’t eat the Bahn Mi or simply just don’t care.
The reason I’m taking a star off is because of their consistency. I have been ordering the same thing and nothing else. I’ve tried addressing this situation in the past with no luck.
The last time I went in there to get my Bahn Mi. They quoted me 10 minutes. I got there and had to wait another 10 minutes. They were completely empty and there was one other person waiting on their food. I watched as this guy stood there laughing and “possibly” flirting with the other employee while he made my Bahn Mi. They were the only 2 employees that I visually saw there that day.
He wasn’t paying attention to what he was doing and I know this because he was staring at the other employee and laughing almost the entire time. I stood there and hawk-eyed him the whole time. It’s like I was invisible as I waited for my food.
My Bahn Mi was one of the worst I’ve ever had. Almost no cucumbers. No Jalapeños as requested. The cilantro was almost all on one side and it was definitely missing something else that I couldn’t put my finger on. It also tasted dry and didn’t have the sweetness it normally does.
I’m posting this review in hopes that the owner will see it and speak to their employees about consistency and behavior.
Below is a picture of the Bahn Mi that I spoke of.
EDIT: To the owner. the date I was in was November 30th. Thank you for the response. I will eventually edit this complaint out...
