Saw this place on Google, and my mom loved the picture of the salad bar, so that's where we ended up for dinner. The salad bar was ok. There weren't many items for a salad for me. Especially with having one trip and the size of the plate. You have to choose a salad or a couple of the other cold salads on the bar. They have 3 options for the salad bar. The buffet, which is the entire buffet. Then you have one trip or unlimited trips for $1 more. The giant block of cheese separated what you can and can't have. I looked over the salad bar before we ordered and was considering it until I found out it was $18. There weren't enough options for me of things I would eat to pay that price. I instead ordered chicken strips that came with one trip to the salad bar, and my spouse got the fried chicken and chose the soup over the salad bar. The fried chicken was amazing! Seasoned very well, crispy and so juicy. Absolutely cooked to perfection. The soup was good as we're the green beans. Would come back just for the chicken. The chicken strips were another story. The portion was astounding! I couldn't believe how much I received in a single portion. After tasting the fried chicken, I couldn't wait to try the strips. They weren't even comparable. They were so overcooked that they were almost like jersey. When our server came over to ask how everything was, my mom was going to tell her, and I said no. She then asked if my strips were overcooked. I said yes, and she chose a combative response and stance. She then asked if we wanted a manager, and I almost said yes because she became so hostile about it. I would come back for the fried chicken in a heartbeat. Not the buffet or the strips.

Iwas excited to get German food for lunch as was my wife on a recent trip from Houston to San Antonio. While the German food entree selection was limited to a sausage plate and a few schnitzels, we nevertheless enjoyed our meals. First off, they had a buffet for lunch ($11.95) with a few entrees (fried chicken, meatloaf and bbq - no German food) and a variety of veggies and sides. However, I found the salad bar was amazing. It had a blend of lettuces as well as fresh spinach plus very fresh veggies. I enjoyed the cole slaw and German potato salad. I elected to just do a large salad bar ($7.95) and elected to forgo the hot foods since I inherited my wife's Jaegerschitzel. The Jaegerschnitzel ($12.95) was not what she expected in the traditional sense. We have had it where the pork is pounded thin, covered in bread crumbs and pan-fried and covered in a gravy with lemon to give it the tartness. In this case, she received a good size pork chop deep-fried like a chicken fried steak. The pork was about a half-inch thick and was extremely tender and tasty. As a fried pork chop, it was awesome. My other experiences with fried pork chops was a deep fried dry and tough piece of pork. Not here! I would easily order this again. My wife also felt that the red cabbage was bit too vinegary for her taste, overcooked, and lacked clove. She did say that the salad bar made up for it though. Just goes to show that you can't please everyone. Finally, I had to try their made fresh everyday apple pie ($3.95). It did not disappoint!

Summary: excellent, recommended & would definitely eat here again when in the area. We stopped in for dinner Mon 4/8/24 (solar eclipse day) to kill some time due to the traffic still from San Antonio to Houston at 7pm. My sister got the Chicken Salad Sandwich, she picked fries - she said overall her dish "was pretty good". My hubby & I shared both dishes: ▪︎ Jalapeño Schnitzel, we picked the salad bar & squash casserole ▪︎ Club Sandwich (recommended by the waitress), we picked fries I piled our 1 small salad plate UP 😅 - even added some potato salad & coleslaw which was included in the salad bar. My hubby was pulling the beets out of the middle so was making a small mess, so I just spread out my napkin under the plate & deconstructed some of it so he could see the lower layers. It was all fresh & tasty. The star of the show was the Jalapeño Schnitzel with red cabbage (which was like sauerkraut) & squash casserole - the meat was unexpectedly tender & fried to perfection 👌 (not greasy nor heavy breading). The Club Sandwich was fresh & huge, even the fries were a little more than just basic fries. Everything was delicious. We happily had lots of leftovers. Next time I want to try the liver & onions and a pie. Please be aware that checking out can be a bit slow, the waitress gives you the bill & you pay up front at the cashier who is primarily the hostess busy seating parties (there was a line) so just got to be patient & wait.

Drove through this part of town on our way home. Came in expecting great things but left disappointed. We stood behind two guys in line to be seated. We were making jokes on how long it was taking. Cashier was checking ppl out and a couple of waitresses walked by. No one acknowledged us!

Finally a WAITRESS came to seat the two men before us-20 minutes on our clock but not knowing how long it was for them. We were seated by another blonde girl who asked if we are waiting to be seated. Duh! We are at the “Wait to be seated “ podium! She seated us but stated the menus were sticky so went to get other ones. The restaurant was not that busy and we wondered why it took so long to be seated!!?? I literally counted 4 tables with people and 5 tables that were dirty. Yes, a few people left for we saw them check out, but those tables all around our table were not clean. Could we not have been seated somewhere not as messy?

Finally our waitress comes out to take our order. Nothing fancy. We ordered chicken salad sandwich and fried chicken sandwich with fries. 2 sandwiches! 15 minutes later I get my platter with fries and chicken salad sandwich. It was delicious. Thank God! Waitress told my spouse he would have to wait a few minutes for his fried chicken sandwich, because the cook didn’t “drop it to be fried yet”.

10 minutes later; Ended up giving my spouse the other 1/2 of my fries and sandwich because his didn’t come out in a timely manner. At this point we didn’t see our waitress again. So, we asked the busboy to get our waitress to inform that we are not needing the FC sandwich, which she stated it should be out very soon. But at this time we both have finished the one meal.

Kudos to the busboy cleaning all the messy tables quickly once...
