I saw a tick tok review and boy was I excited to head here. I was excited to sit down and eat. The lady made it seem like it was a sit down restaurant but it’s not it’s a ghost kitchen. Nonetheless I get there and I’m excited for this new experience. I had never been to a ghost kitchen before so I gave the location, the parking, the process a 5 but baby this food is a 1…… I always make it my business to order a lot of stuff because I like to try everything plus I have 2 kids at home and I’m expecting to get enough to feed 3. The portions were small but the prices were high! I ordered the chicken wing dinner with Mac & Cheese ,Collard Greens with Turkey 17.99. The sides were tasteless and they gave me about 6 wing ding pieces. The Mac n cheese was just ok and there was no taste at all on the greens. I can tell the chicken was seasoned but again not much. Everything needed SALT & PEPPER. Next I ordered jerk chicken dinner with cabbage and red beans and rice 17.49 This meal was a disgrace to Jamaica. The jerk was weird bc it was falling off the bone but I couldn’t make out what kind of chicken it was. There was a leg but the rest of it was like shredded chicken with a glaze or gravy idk but definitely not enough meat to feed 1 reminds me of crockpot chicken. The cabbage was to spicy and the red beans and rice had so much water in them they tasted like soup. Definitely would not eat that again! Next I ordered their Signature Spaghetti Bowl 11.99 idk at this point I’m thinking this is their last hope you can’t mess up spaghetti and boy was I wrong! It was so sweet it was ridiculous and mushy everything was over cooked maybe microwaved before they gave it to me idk….. And lastly I ordered 1x Cornbread for 4.49 lol I couldn’t tell you how it taste bc they never put it in the bag……so my total came to 55.86 and as I was paying I remembered the kiosk asking me to tip and I thought why would I tip with the prices being this high for to go food? Then I remembered thinking I hope I don’t pay for not tipping and let me tell you I did. I believe the person who prepared this food and saw there was no tip and had to sabotage the food and purposely forget my cornbread bc there is no way the chef could be this BAD….. so we’re gonna blame this horrible review on not leaving a tip and let this be a reminder to always tip even at to go...
Read moreTwo Thumbs Down (Way Down) for "Southern Comfort" - More Like Southern Discomfort! Let me tell you, folks, I had high hopes for "Southern Comfort." The name alone conjured images of warm, flavorful, home-cooked soul food. What I experienced was anything but. It was more like a culinary crime scene. First off, let's talk about the alleged star of the show: the pork chop. I ordered it grilled, expecting a juicy, tender piece of meat that would melt in my mouth. What arrived was a sad, gray slab of something that resembled shoe leather more than pork. I swear I could have resoled my boots with it. It was tough. Like, really tough. I spent a good five minutes sawing at it with my knife, and my jaw is still aching from the chewing marathon that ensued. Flavor? What flavor? It tasted vaguely of sadness and maybe a hint of overcooked despair. And then there was the mac and cheese. Oh, the mac and cheese. A staple of soul food, a dish that should be creamy, cheesy, and comforting. What I got was a congealed, lukewarm mess. The cheese sauce looked like it had solidified sometime last Tuesday, and the macaroni noodles were clinging to each other like they were afraid of being eaten. It was cold. Stone cold in parts. Honestly, it felt like they scooped it straight out of the fridge and onto my plate. Absolutely unacceptable. The sides weren't much better. The collard greens were limp and bitter, and the cornbread was dry and crumbly, like they used sawdust instead of cornmeal. The only thing remotely warm on my plate was the lukewarm water in my glass. The service was… well, let's just say our server seemed as thrilled to be there as I was to be eating that pork chop. Slow, inattentive, and didn't seem to care when I politely mentioned the temperature of the mac and cheese (their response was a shrug). Honestly, this place is an insult to the very idea of soul food. If you're looking for a comforting and delicious meal, steer clear of "Southern Comfort." You'd be better off microwaving a frozen dinner. At least then you'd know what level of disappointment to expect. My stomach is still churning, and my taste buds are in mourning. Save your money and your appetite – go somewhere else! This place is...
Read moreSo good. Didn't know you had to order the food to go at the Essex location , but it was worth it. After I drove around the building looking for a sign saying where to go, I finally came up to it. I was met with arrows on the side of the building that was pointing the way to the " Pick up area ." I seen there were cars lined up gerting orders. So i got on the website and ordered. I signed up to get text alerts and was shortly notified after paying that my order was received and that they would text me when it was ready for pick up. 19 mins later, i received that text saying it's ready . I pulled to the front of the building, which looked like a factory, and walked inside from up the ramp. I was met with a door to the front, and to the right was a long corridor that had an open area with a desk and 2 employees sitting there. There were plenty of tablets and what looks to be two kiosk machines to place orders to go . I also noticed there were lots of lockers on the wall with letters and numbers such as A1 , B5, and so forth. Im assuming this is where Doordasher picked food up as i was told that since i placed a personal order, my food was behind the counter where the employees were located. I received my order and asked if the utilities were inside as i requested and was told yes. I opened the brown paper bag that the food was in to see if all items were inside and they were. Including items i didn't ask for as there was no area on the website to order condiments. So i was happy to see hot sauce and tartar. I got the 2 smothered pork chops that were fried and covered in a brown gravy as well as 2 sides . The garlic mashed potatoes and mac & cheese. My uncle got 2 fried catfish filets seasoned to perfection with Mac & Cheese , homestyle green beans seasoned with onions, and some baked beans. All the items were well flavored & delicious as well as piping hot there was plenty of food. We had no complaints. Would...
