Star Kitchen Café bills itself as the love child of Starbucks and a full-fledged kitchen; however, my experiences have felt more like a collision between a speedway and a dive bar. Culinary adventures here have been a rollercoaster, with highs, lows, and unfortunately, some notably bad customer service incidents. The fried chicken sandwich and onion rings hit all the right notes, but the breakfast sandwich tasted like it had been run over by a dirty tire. The sausage lacked flavor, and the eggs were over-seasoned, resulting in a less-than-appetizing combination. The burger mirrored the overcooked creations of tipsy dads during family barbeques. The menu is peppered with unusual combinations, including the Polish Boy (kielbasa, coleslaw, fries and BBQ sauce on a bun) wings, a fried chicken skin BLT (essentially a BLT sans bacon for fried chicken skin), a ghost pepper burger, and various salads. While initially intrigued by such an unconventional menu, the reality felt more like an identity crisis spilling onto the menu board—obscure items pieced together like a culinary Frankenstein from suppliers like GFS and US Foods. The building itself is ultra-modern, clean, and truly a beautiful addition to the neighborhood it serves in Marion village . My suggestion? Focus on a core menu structure and double down on what you do well. The fried chicken sandwich and onion rings stand out as truly exceptional options in an otherwise chaotic menu. If aiming for a Starbucks-level experience (keeping in mind it's not the pinnacle of quality but more of a confectionary for adults), consider recruiting skilled baristas and expanding your coffee options. Additionally, I highly recommend using a higher quality local roaster, such as One Line or...
Read moreThe staff is friendly, the café is very clean with a good atmosphere. The food was good, served hot and good portions. We were there for breakfast around 8:45. I was surprised it wasn't busy, nobody inside but they do have a drive thru. I would definitely recommend this hidden gem. UPDATE: 7/18/2025 Went back there again today with my granddaughter for breakfast. There was a different young lady waiting on us today. My granddaughter ordered the kids meal with grilled cheese and tots and this time I order the breakfast burger. The young lady taking our order mentioned she was new. She was very nice and I felt she did a nice job. We took a booth to wait for our food. Shawnee the young lady that took our order last week was filling the silverware holders on tables with sets they wrap in napkins. We spoke and I asked how they cook the egg on the breakfast burger? She said " Anyway you want it. " I said "She didn't ask. " In her defense she was new and since she didn't ask I assumed they cook them over well. I told Shawnee I would like it over medium. She came back out and let me know she told the cook. Our food came out fresh and hot. The breakfast burger is delicious. I really recommend this place. Go in and see Shawnee and the rest of the friendly staff and enjoy a very good meal in a nice clean...
Read moreWe came to Star Kitchen twice in the last two days. Both times were phenomenal. It’s a cute little cafe type place with a range of food. The first day we came, we ordered the bbq fried chicken wrap, the lemon chicken soup and a chicken skin blt. The chicken in the wrap is so crispy, and the wrap itself was quality. The soup was hot, full of chicken chunks, and with a little extra salt, it hit the spot. Never had chicken skin on a sandwich before but it was delicious!
We returned again today because we loved it so much and had an equally awesome experience. We ordered the fried chicken gyro, the chicken little wrap with onion rings and the loaded potato soup. The gyro was overflowing with goodness, the chicken little was delicious, the ranch had good flavor, the chicken was hot and fresh, and the soup, with a little extra salt, was hot and good. The onion rings were battered and weren’t too thick, so they didn’t slide out like some do - they had the perfect bite.
Both times the place was clean, the service was quick and friendly. The prices felt fair and affordable compared to some. We also got free pastries from the owner/manager! So lucky to have this place in our...
