Lupita’s Mexican Cuisine & Bar — Restaurant in Columbus

Our experience earlier today at lunch, unfortunately, didn't match the general positive experience reported by others. We drove out of the way to get to this restaurant to experience what others had raved about.

While service was prompt and courteous, the dishes we ordered tasted sub-par to just plain bad. I've never had such a watery, liquid flowing, tasteless Chiles Rellenos dish in the couple of hundred times I've eaten in Mexican restaurants in different places in different states. It was just the worst. The spinach and cheese enchiladas were ok, but sub-par compared to the many other places we've had that dish before. The fried ice cream portion was surprisingly big (good), but somehow not as tasty either.

Spoke with a manager on the way out, and he promised to make it right the next time (we were traveling here, so there's unlikely to be a next time visit for us to this place). Couldn't help wonder why they couldn't demonstrate their interest in my satisfaction by discounting whole or in part of the bad dish I got - rather they charged me full price for a dish I couldn't even eat 20% of, even after reporting just how bad it was! But I wasn't in a mood to plead or argue for this. Whatever!

I typically don't write negative reviews. I'm not angry about this experience either - after all I've had a good experience in more than 90% of the restaurants before. Just felt like I needed to share this - not to hurt their business, but to motivate them to figure out what went wrong and make adjustments to continue to earn such great reviews as they've had so far. I had great expectations for this neighborhood restaurant. The excellent ratings were a definite draw. However, I had a completely different experience.

I ordered delivery. The first delivery of steak was undercooked, raw even. The owner was aghast and immediately delivered a replacement meal himself. He seems to have a great desire to please his customers and run a successful business. Unfortunately, his kitchen seems to think otherwise and is working against him.

Except for the steak, everything was infinitely too salty. And I mean everything. The food was so salty that I could not eat it, and I tried. I was starving. Unfortunately, I'd stay that way. Except for the steak, everything else went into the trashcan.

I really had high expectations given previous reviews. Maybe it was a bad day for the kitchen. In the end, I had little choice but to take the food it sent out and (aside from the redelivered steak) and write off the $25 cost.

I really appreciate the owner delivering a better cooked steak. However, I'd not yet tasted the other food in the order. Again, it was so salty as to be inedible. I should have returned the entire delivery. I'd have requested a refund if I'd been sitting in the restaurant. I definitely will not order for a delivery from Lupita again.

I have been on the look out for a real authentic Mexican restaurant for years!! After living in Arizona I just have not been impressed with what passes for Mexican cuisine here in Ohio. Well let me tell you, I found the place my little heart has been searching for.. it’s Lupita’s Mexican Cuisine and Bar!!! This place is cute and cozy, perfect ambiance. First comes the warm tortilla chips and not one but THREE kinds of salsa AND a dish of beans and cheese on top for dipping!! Then we order and had a lovely chat with our server Natalia, she was so sweet and told us that they had been in operation for just over a year and that her and her Dad opened this restaurant and you could tell it truly had been a work of love. Our food arrives pretty quickly and hot. We got chimichangas, tamales, sopes, pollo Oaxaca and taco quesadillas. Oh my goodness, it was so all delicious!!! You know that feeling when the food is so yummy it touches part of your soul? That happened to me there. I just can’t say enough about this place.
