Hmm, well...the first time I went, no one was there to seat me. There was no sign about seating yourself. Not knowing what to do, I turned right back around. Plus, the 2 or 3 tables that had people were all truckers, and they just stared at me. I felt uncomfortable so I left. It was like a club or something, so have your click, enjoy!
Next time, sat myself, because again, no staff. Finally, after a few minutes, a waitress brought a menu and after that it was smooth sailing. I ordered accromments for the salad and they were brought out quickly. She even held my leftover box therewhile I showered and bought snacks.
However, I ordered a half salad and received a half salad. I was charged for a full salad. It was good, but it was a 1/2 chef salad. Nothing special. Iceburg lettuce mix, tomato, olives, shredded cheese, a few ribbons of lunchmeat, folded to appear large. No crispy veg, special touch, croutons. Dressing was good but I think the dry mix we can buy at the store. The best part of all was the TX toast which was pretty good.
It was not worth $10 Plus extra for the egg and onions. So $12+ for a salad that was okay. Really, this is a basic salad from a truck stop. Had I known, I would have passed.i could have gone to the truck stop side and bought 3 for...
Read moreStopped here on a whim after my daughter’s aerial lesson. Typical truck stop diner; there were no signs saying to wait to be seated or to seat yourself (and no waitstaff to be seen—she was in back getting a to-go order), so we had to wait as we didn’t want to get overlooked. The waitress was friendly and the place was mostly empty when we arrived, but started getting busier shortly after we ordered. My daughter got the sweet cream pancakes and scrambled eggs, and I got the burnt ends. Her eggs seemed a bit overcooked but tasted good, and the pancake was nice and sweet (smelled almost like birthday cake). The burnt ends were tender and a decent sized portion, and the sides were pretty standard. The dry rub has a nice little kick to it. We finished off with a slice of cherry pie. It was all right, but had a strange pink tint to it that made the pie look like it had been sitting there for a while. All in all a decent meal, all for about...
Read moreThe Apple Barrel here is severely understaffed, the manager has been made aware of the horrible service due to the severe understaffing. It took 25 minutes for my appetizer to come out. This morning it took 45 minutes for my order to reach my table, and the order was wrong. It wasn’t busy, there is no reason to have a single cook and a single server on duty who also has to take care of every single table and also bus the tables and do the dishes while still expected to give good service. The Manager at this establishment clearly doesn’t care about the customer or staff. I’ve been on the road for 13 years now, and this is the WORST Apple Barrel I have ever had the misfortune of doing a 34 hour reset at. Again, the food is decent, the prices are not horrible. The Servers are doing their best. But when upper management literally does not care, the...
