The owner of this place is very talented. Unfortunately, his wife and daughter are very rude. Read the other reviews here across the internet. There are quite a few that talk about how rude they are.
We swore this place off between 2016-2021 due to the rudeness. When we gave it another shot in 2021, there was a new server, so we began frequenting this restaurant again.
This time, we are swearing this place off for good. Apparently, they are unable to keep good help, so once again, Jackie's daughter is back waiting tables, and she is not happy about it at all. You can tell it in her body language and tone she uses.
Here is what happened:
We arrived at 6:18 pm. Our order wasn’t taken until 6:35. We ordered appetizers and 2 sushi rolls.
At 7:12, an adjacent table (who had been there a total of 15 minutes) received their crab rangoon. I had been there 54 minutes and still hadn’t received my edamame (appetizer).
I asked our waitress (the owner's daughter) about it. She went to the kitchen. About a minute later, an older lady brought me my edamame with attitude. I said, “We have been here almost an hour.” At that point, the older lady raised her voice at me, saying, "Didn't she tell you that sushi would take longer?" Um, no. She didn't tell us that there would be a delay. She did nothing to keep us informed. I pointed out that I had only asked for my edamame, which takes 5 minutes tops to steam. (I have since put it together that the older lady was the owner's wife and the young woman's mother.)
A few seconds later, when the daughter refilled my drink, she poured it on my hand. She apologized, but I'm not so sure that it was an accident, as this particular girl is known for her micro aggressions. (Read the other reviews here and on Yelp). We walked out at 7:30 because we still didn't have the rest of our meal. Another couple got up about 5 minutes before we did.
If you decide to eat here and the owner's daughter is your server, do not ask if she forgot about your food. Do not ask for a refill. Do not ask for anything. She will get mad at you and do things to "punish" you. Other tables who arrived after you will get their food before you. You will wait 15-20 minutes for a refill, if you get one at all. Your appetizer will come out after your entree'. She will talk loudly about you in the kitchen. And at the end of your meal, you will be presented with a very high bill that is...
Read moreShort answer: Inconsistent food quality, dirty place, dishes don't match the price or the menu(sometimes,) and the owner was willing to cuss out a loyal customer instead of fixing the over-priced LUNCH SPECIAL order that he messed up.
Go to Sushi Queen or The Thai House.
My experience here started out well enough. The first meal I had with them was good, tasty, but not mind-blowing, and the meal was a little pricey for the quality. I began frequenting the place for their red curry and avocado roll. I noticed over time the vegetables in the curry changed a lot, (even though menu did not inform me of the changes.) I let that go because the curry sauce was good. I brought my dad in to try the place so he wouldn't have to drive to Charlotte for Thai food. Something was very wrong with the chicken in the dish he orders. I didn't believe him until halfway through I tasted it. The chicken was very chewy, and had a weird taste. My dad said it tasted "old" to him. He said everything else seemed fine. I also noticed that every time I got the curry with tofu, they kept over-packing it with tofu and added a ton of bamboo shoots and maybe 4 slivers of peppers. The dishes were FULL of veggies when i first started eating there. The last time I went there they had completely screwed up the order and charged an extra $10 when I asked for less tofu and more veggies in my 2 curries. If you try to view their lunch menu through google, you will see their exact menu for that exact location, but the prices are drastically different from what the restaurant actually charges you. When I explained this to the girl at the counter she got and attitude and I told her she needs to contact google and get them to fix it because it is very misleading. She became very condescending and needed told her daddy on me. So, I tried to explain to him that he needs to contact google because there are a lot of people who will not appreciate the price differences, and he then began to cuss me out and tell me to go to another Thai restaurant.
HAPPY TO! This place is just convenient,...
Read moreIt took nearly 2 years until I realized that there was a sushi cafe restaurant right at the intersection of Church & Lake Concord. It's so hidden and camouflaged in a generic office looking building! If it wasn't for the 'Open' sign illuminated at night, I prob would have never noticed it. I always pictured that building to be general offices.
I decided to finally stop inside. Quiet n subtle atmosphere. Prob because it was a Sunday afternoon. I imagine it being quite the opposite on Friday/Sat. night. The host was talkative and friendly. Walked me through the brief history of the place (which is quite small and narrow inside, btw).
Figured this was my chance to finally try the ever popular Pho everyone keeps talking about. I never had it in my life - I thought it was great here. Great size portion with loads of flavors and fixings. I got the beef version. Basically a large soup. Other reviews state it's not the best, and they may be right. But for my first time, I was content. Now I know what to expect if I happen to get it elsewhere. Nice little spot overall. I'd come back again and try...
