New Baytown Seafood and Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Conroe

We were in town visiting family & this is where they wanted to go for lunch. Food was good. Being from New Orleans I tend to critique seafood a little more. The special for the day was, 2 pieces of fish, 3 fried shrimp, 2 crab cakes. UNFORTUNATELY, our waitress who was Caucasian & spoke English well, did NOT use her words & explain to use how the special worked. My husband, my son & I love shrimp & asked if we could have the special but add a few more shrimp. Waitress said yes, but DID NOT TELL US that we would NOT GET the crab cakes!!!! 😳 Our food came. Fish fillets were LARGE and seasoned well and fried. Shrimp were nice size, maybe 20-25 count! They were battered and fried. UNFORTUNATELY, where we come from you peel the ENTIRE shrimp before you batter and fry it. Here they left part of the tail on.😣😒 And the batter on the shrimp had no seasoning, no flavor (Zatarain's Fish Fry people) or salt & pepper! When the bill came I was upset because we were charged EXTRA money for the couple shrimp but was NOT reimbursed for the 6 crab cakes we did NOT RECEIVE!! I didn't want to make a scene at the restaurant because we had just left from visiting a family member in ICU at the Conroe Hospital and I didn't want to upset our elderly Aunt that was with us (it is her husband still in ICU). For a small restaurant that only towners know about, I DO RECOMMEND stopping in for some seafood if you're in the Conroe, Texas area! Just be SURE to CLARIFY what you are getting & paying...

Enjoyed another delicious dinner here. Service was fast and courteous. Shrimp was hot, crispy and delicious - as was the stuffed baked potato. Salad was fresh and plentiful. Only wish there were another cherry tomato and some cucumber. If I can stop myself from always ordering the fried shrimp, I would like to try some curry dishes!! The jumbo shrimp were GIGANTIC, Hot, crispy and fresh! I had a stuffed baked potato and a salad. The potato was nice and hot and was stuffed well. Salad was cold, crisp and fresh. I like that they put an assortment of crackers on the table too. Hubby said the fish was delicious as well. Everything was fresh and tasty and the large portions gave us leftovers. (I can eat my weight in Shrimp!) The owners are really sweet folks. The service was excellent. It's a very casual place with good food and great prices. This place sucks. Me and my husband ate here for the first time tonight and being that this was our first time, of course we ordered multiple items.

The boiled shrimp are small and super soggy. Don't order

The oysters are small and warm. Don't order.

The baked potato is microwaved. Don't order.

The green beans are canned. Don't order.

The coleslaw was warm and sour. Don't order.

The mashed potatoes are instant potatoes. Don't order.

The crab cakes aren't even crab cakes. Don't order.

The frog legs are small and chewy. Don't order.

The gravy is package gravy. Don't order.

The mixed vegetables are drenched in butter or oil. They were horrible. Don't order.

The shrimp brochette was super soggy. Don't order.

The steak was over cooked, chewy, and tasteless. Don't order.

The cheesecake was made from a box. Nothing special at all. Don't order.

We liked the ranch, boudin balls, chef salad, and grilled shrimp salad.

IN OTHER WORDS, WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING. Oh and the receipt isn't itemized. We were over charged $2.49, $2.00, and $1.99. Best of luck.
