Today this establishment broke ADA laws while causing me anguish and embarrassment at the same time. I had driven a very long way to have brunch with an old friend I had not seen in years and had my Psychiatric Service dog with me. A small dog. From the minute I stepped through the door I was met with rude scowling faces from the older ladies at the hostess station who then followed me to the table to continue to harrass me about my dog. Normally I would have pushed back but I did not want to ruin the day for my friend and her young child. So calmly I went to get the stroller out of my car and put my dog in that to appease everybody. But this wasn’t good enough. I then had 3 employees and the owner in my face making a scene telling me to put my dog on the ground under the table on their disgusting carpet that looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in months. I stated that I was not going to do that and that she was a psychiatric service dog that has to be close to my face. I asked why the stroller wasn’t ok and they only insisted the rules were that the dog had to be under the table. In 7 years I have NEVER been treated so badly or had this issue in all of the restaurants in all of the state and outside the state that I have been. I was forced to leave before even ordering and will never return. I drove up the road to another diner who not only welcomed me with open arms, doted on my dog, didn’t question a thing even though I offered, and even found us a perfect booth. Many customers doted on my dog as well. That is how I’m used to being treated and am still appalled at Golden Bears behavior.
To state you must make everybody happy while at the same time not assisting or accommodating the person who needs the service animal is not making everybody happy. I am definitely not happy.
And all of this was solely based on some previous experience they have had and not the current situation. No current complaints. There was no time for that to happen. I will be reporting this business and I would hope in the future you will handle this situation differently. I am sure an ADA fine is much worse than the chance of a random bitter person complaining.
So I am here to educate this owner and his EXTREMELY rude employees. In fact ADA laws state that the animal must be allowed and can be under the table OR NEXT to its owner. A perfect example of a service dog that CANNOT be at your feet and need to be by your face or upper body to provide the service they were trained for are psychiatric service dogs and dogs for blood sugar that must smell your breathe to be able to alert you.
Your actions caused me great distress for many reasons, and thanks to you I had an episode in my car after...
Read moreWe’re new to this area of town and we were doubtful that we’d ever find an old school breakfast diner like the one we frequented in our old neighborhood. We googled ‘breakfast diners in Seminole’ and were intrigued by the awesome reviews here… me more so by the comments on their old fashioned grits! This hole-in-the-wall diner is located in a strip mall and is very easy to overlook, if not for the completely full parking lot - a very good sign! We followed the crowd inside and have been going for breakfast ever since! They also serve lunch for people who aren’t looking for breakfast food.
True to the reviews, their grits are unlike ANYTHING this Southerner has ever had! Less gritty than traditional grits, but whipped in texture and consistency, they are the best grits in the world! Melt in some butter and sprinkle with salt and you’ll be in grit heaven! There’s honey, sugar and syrup available for those who prefer their grits sweet.
Our order: We always get the 2 Egg breakfast - with two eggs cooked any way and your choice of breakfast meat and one of the following three options: grits, toast or hash browns. The hash browns are old school shredded and griddled in a heaping pile, so don’t miss those, either! We always order a side of hash browns to split. Sometimes, my husband orders the pancakes - the size of basically hubcaps lol. The coffee is hot, the service is awesome and we really love sitting in Bonnie’s section. Go for the grits and fall in love with everything else like we did! The little guy who clears the tables is a sweetheart and we look forward to seeing his big smile every time we go!
*Thank you also for serving and recognizing our veterans! As a wife to a veteran, you’ve got fans for life with my family! Don’t forget to check out the breakfast specials located on the napkin dispensers on each table! Bring cash to avoid the new 3% surcharge they tack in to credit card payments. They offer...
Read moreI very rarely leave reviews under 3 stars because I try to understand that things happen. And having worked in the food industry, I know how stressful it can be. With that being said there is no excuse for serving spoiled food and there is no reason for a manager to be rude. I ordered, and paid for my food online. Went to pick it up and the woman (didn't get her name) at the front told me I needed to pay for it. She was extremely polite about it and said she would check on it and had me wait. The manager (I presume) came back and said I needed to pay. I told him I already paid online when ordering through Postmates and that I wasn't paying twice for the same food. He replies with "I don't know anything about Postmates, I use Uber." He then says well i need to get paid. I said "then you need to figure out your online ordering process because when I placed the order it was though your website." He goes back into the kitchen, where I assume someone with more knowledge than him explained it to him and he comes back out and lets the woman know I paid already. That would have been the end of it, however when I get home and unpack my food, not only did I have things missing, but the grits were sour which, having been a cook means they used spoiled milk when making the grits as grits with water wouldn't smell nor taste as they did. The only reason for 2 stars is because the woman at the front was accomocating and obviously knows the job. They should probably take notes from her on customer service. Good breakfast food is easy to find. Good food and service, not so much. I will never return to this establishment and should you go, smell your grits before...
