So disappointed. Saturday 7/26. Went for a friend’s birthday celebration. Reservation was 7:30pm. We did not receive our food until 9pm. When the food came out 4 entrees were undercooked. One burger and one steak completely raw. Another steak that was supposed to be cooked to well done was a cold dark pink, another friend with the steak salad said some pieces were raw and others were not. My green goddess salad lacked flavor and the chicken would’ve been better cooked by my husband. When we told the server of the raw food she took the steak back. Instead of grilling a new steak for my friend to medium they put the same steak back on the grill. When the steak came back out it was cooked like a burger to complete over done. She had ordered it medium from the beginning. When we got the manager her demeanor was apathetic. Took the steak and went back to the kitchen a second time. When she brought the new steak out she didn’t even wait for my friend to cut into it to be sure it was alright. Just walked away. The steak was not medium still, but edible. She told the others at the table to make up for it she would discount some drinks and bring out beignets that were being prepared for brunch the next day. The birthday girl loves the Living Room Beignets. Except for when we received the Beignets the dough inside was completely raw too!! What the heck?! I’m glad we noticed or we would’ve all been sick that night. This was not my first time at TLR so I was just appalled. Had never had this kind of experience ANYWHERE. It was so bad the manager had the head chef come out and apologize. He offered another dessert to which we all shook our heads no at. Why would we want to eat his food after all had gone wrong?? The manager was not very apologetic or willing to comp anything. She didn’t offer anything more than her first offer after the beignets came out raw. When I finally asked her as they were collecting the checks at 10pm if there was anything else she could do for this disaster she was reluctant and said it would take 15 minutes to see what discounts she could put in. At this point I truly believe if you wanted anyone from this terrible experience to come back then the entire table should’ve been taken care of by TLR. If you have to have the head chef come apologize to the entire table then you know it’s bad. It was appalling that she didn’t offer this. She ended up taking the burger off for the birthday girl who got served a raw one, the steak was comped by 50%. That should’ve been 100% comped bc of the amount of wait to finally eat it!! And the entire table should’ve received at least the 30% local discount that they offer to residents on a Monday night. Instead she opted to try and get us to come back with the 25% mall discount. Pretty sure all 11 of us and our families will never return. I don’t even want the drawing for the $100 gift card for filling out a survey. I just want someone to know what a disaster the food turned out to be thanks to the restaurant. This used to be our favorite spot. I don’t know what happened but the lack of care was ridiculous. We loved our waitress Karissa who listened well, was sympathetic to the experience, and tried to speak on our behalf. She was just the deliver and messenger. It was out of her control. Really disappointed with the clearly forced apology from the head chef and lack of care of the manager on...
Read moreAmazing food quality. Great servers. Also… surprisingly disability and plus size friendly!
I always hesitate when I go to a new upper class dining option because my wide, plus sized hips don’t always fit comfortably in the armed chairs that are almost ubiquitous at celebration and date night spots, and our party had a mobility impaired person who often ends up bumping into other people’s tables because they pack the rooms so tightly with tables…. But I’ll tell you what— I fit in at the Living Room. I thought the deep, armless chairs were incredibly thoughtful, and there was enough room for our mobility-disabled guest to move around in. So if you’re disabled, 10/10!
I got the hanger steak, which honestly was as tender as a filet. It’s all the meaty flavor of a ribeye but with much less fat, and I am HERE for it because your girl doesn’t love fat globules but loves steak. I had the citrus burre blanc with it, which gave it a nice little pop of acidity. I will definitely be ordering it again when I am in the mood for beef.
BUT…. do NOT sleep on the lamb. It was the dark horse of the whole meal. Omg. It was boneless and absolutely melted in my mouth. Listen to your server when they say to go medium or mid-rare. I was dubious. But she was right. Apparently, I’ve been eating overcooked lamb my whole life because the lamb here was amazing at mid-rare. It was “use your butter knife to cut” tender, a little grassy, and absolutely scrumptious. I felt like I was out in the fields, and it was served by actual shepherds or something. It was that fresh and good. Paired with the mushroom side dish, it was all my cottagecore dreams coming true. You can just imagine yourself in the countryside as a hobbit, eating your lamb with sherry sauce and mushrooms. It was incredibly pastoral and a little whimsical, and was probably the best meal at the table.
Moreso than the incredible meats, Even down to something as usually pedestrian as mashed potatoes, it was absolutely delightful— silky and tasteful and not too buttery. The risotto was a little spicy for me, but I’m a big old baby about spice— it was still tasty though. My spouse, who is NOT an absolute baby like me when it comes to heat gave the risotto 10/10, said it was amazing, and absolutely worth the $3 upcharge. The apple-rutabega puree is also silky smooth and delicious— for those who aren’t in the know, the combo tastes a lot like a sweet potato, but a little more “bright” and not as heavy on the palate or the tummy.
Oh, and get the dessert, if you’re wondering on whether to spend the extra $10 or not. Just do it.
We had the pistachio tiramisu. For $10…. It was a HUGE slice and was even better than a lot of the Dubai chocolate stuff other places are offering lately. I know pistachio is the “it” flavor right now, and the Living Room made it so much more exciting.
The ambiance is really cute, (I want to paint my house that color blue!) and the management was so gracious when we asked them to turn down the music because we couldn’t hear each other. (Our whole party is a bit hard of hearing lol)
This is now my favorite date night and celebration spot. 10/10 will come again. Once it gets cooler, I would absolutely eat out on the little porch area— it looked so cute!
All together, I would absolutely...
Read moreI’ve gone but was never able to try it. The one time I went, I was meeting my MIL, who was running like 15 minutes late, so I got us a table outside and was waiting. The waitress came over quickly and I told her I was waiting for someone but that I would like a margarita. A man sat at the table next to me with a different server shortly after, and he got his drink first, which is fine. But then about 20 minutes later my MIL got there and I still didn’t have my drink, and the guy got his food. We asked the food runner if they could send our server over. No exaggeration, I checked the time, and an hour went by and she never came back. I sat at 12:30, she got there at 12:45, and we got up from the empty table at 1:30. I never got my drink and the guy that sat after me cashed out. We went back to the host stand to let them know that we were going to leave and that’s when I saw the server rushing back over to the table (in a little bit of a panic) to see it empty.
Now, I am a server myself and have been for the past 4 years, so I am truly not one to complain over the simple mistakes. I’m not just a Karen just making a mountain out of a molehill, like if I did this at my job I would genuinely be up all night over it. However, whenever we told her we were leaving and indicated that we were upset with what happened (very politely), she completely flipped it onto me. She said that I said I was waiting on someone, to which I replied, “I was… but she got here 45 minutes ago. I still don’t even have my drink and I’ve been here for an hour.” She looked at the bar, probably to realize it was still sitting there.
I’m sure that someone had asked her to pick up the table and she forgot, it’s happened to me before (for like 10 minutes max) and it was so embarrassing. But in that instance I took full blame; she continued to act like it wasn’t really her problem and like she didn’t understand. I told her that I was a server too so I know how it goes and she said, “Then you should understand” but I what I didn’t understand truly was her attitude and reaction. I’ve never left my table with absolutely nothing for a whole hour, and I’ve surely never blamed it on the guest afterwards. The fact that I even sat there for a whole hour before getting up shows, in fact, how understanding I am.
We were just going to leave, but My MIL was getting a little heated based on the server’s response and asked to speak to the manager, and the server snorted and said, “Well you’re going to have to wait because he’s busy, so good luck.” We left. Not sure what her name was but heyyyy girl if you see this and still have a job there.
This was a while ago but I still wanted to share my experience because I’ve still never gotten to try it because of this unfortunately. I’ve heard the food is good through...
