Update on October 26, 2024: Going from three to four stars. When we came two years ago, we were underwhelmed by the service and food. Today the food and service were much better! I recommend the eggs Benedict. My friend said she likes them and my son-in-law ate every bite. But the restaurant itself seems very run down.
Original review from 2022: Despite our negative review today this location will and should remain popular because it is the only Berkeley-type breakfast and lunch eatery in east Orlando and young people were very happy to linger here today (Thursday, 11:30 am).
My husband was a short order cook for one of the best diners in La Habra, CA, and he praised the bacon here. But he said his pancake today and hash browns had sat under a warmer or on the back of the grill. Tough, gummy pancake. He wouldn’t eat the hash browns. My toast was gummy (see photo). Whoever cut it smashed the knife straight down through two slices of under-toasted bread so it was 1/4” thick at the sliced part. Home fries had no seasoning and we weren’t sure if they were deep fried or baked. My egg white omelet was okay, but I’ve had better at Bob Evans and even Dennys (see photo). It could’ve used a side of pico de gallo or something.
My server (blue-dyed hair) was the best of the bunch. She brought life to the place with her warm greetings and goodbyes. The two younger servers were expressionless, maybe stressed out. My server heard me say no butter, no potatoes, swap in grits please, because she said, “That’s too healthy for me.” But the younger servers brought me buttered toast and breakfast potatoes. They corrected my order and brought me grits.
With tip we paid over $40 for breakfast and I don’t think it was worth the price.
Everyone had a long wait time at the tables and booths. The couple behind us complained because their food took forever to come.
Music was loud 80s hits, like Michael Jackson, Whitney Houston, “Don’t Stop Believing,” “Another One Bites the Dust.”
Counter service was fast! Two sets of college age kids walked in after us, got eggs Benedict and other items quickly and left quickly.
Maybe they should stop serving breakfast all day and focus on their lunch menu after 11:00 or maybe today was an off day.
Our favorite breakfast place so far in the...
Read moreIf i could give 0 stars, I would. I went with my mother, sister, and son after going on the Gator Airboat tour. The place was not busy maybe 2 other tables when we arrived. Waitress said seat yourself. About 4 minutes later, she brings menus. We ordered 3 waters and a fanta for my son. She got those out and then waited 15 minutes to take our order. 2 burgers, a rueben, and a gyro. Upon ordering, we asked if changing sides there would be an up charge, and she said no. So we subbed sweet potato ff and a Caesar salad. The gyro stuck with the potato salad but was accompanied woth a Greek salad also. Food took 40 minutes to arrive after placing the order. My rueben was soggy from sitting in the window, the gyro was cold, and there was no potato salad. We asked for mayo and potato salad. It took her 10 mins to retrieve those items and bring them to us. Now burgers are cold, too. Getting the bill, there was an up charge for changed sides, and she charged for an additional potato salad. After questioning the potato salad charge she informed us that the salad was the side and the potato salad was extra. We told her that the menu stated all sandwiches and wraps came with potato salad, AND the waitress asked if potato salad was ok for your side. While going back and forth about the charge, the waitress gave in and said I'll remove the charge. She came back 5 minutes later and said No I will not remove it. We asked to speak with a manager, and the waitress said there was no one there to speak to.... who is running the restaurant?! No management?!! Another server comes over and tries to help but just makes matters worse, stating that we got the potato salad and we will pay for it. I have never seen such rude behavior from employees to paying guests. The menu was misleading, so the server should have said the potato salad was an additional charge and she would have declined the side. I didn't even ask about the other items I was charged for because it was a nightmare. Terrible service, bad attitudes, language barrier issues , no management, and bad food. How is this place still operating?!! Save your money and time and go...
Read moreMy wife and I went for breakfast this morning with expectations based on location in Lake Nona, along with good reviews we had seen. But the experience fell far short. The greeting upon entering was not welcoming and friendly. They told us to sit where we wanted. We picked a booth that upon sitting there became obvious was not properly cleaned. I said something and got up to allow access for cleaning and still upon sitting back down noticed empty creamer and butter packets where the table met the wall. The seats in the booth were overly warn and ripped, needed reupholstered. The young server was friendly. I was offered a choice of 3 juices. I asked for cranberry. A couple minutes later I was told they were out, so I settled on orange juice. It did not taste fresh and was a bit watery. I was offered some choices of toast with breakfast. I chose rye. A couple minutes later I was told that was out also. I settled on a biscuit, which was mediocre, at best. I also ordered cheese grits. Which when I received, were dry and flavorless with a bit of cheese sprinkled on top. I also ordered a $14 Greek omelette. Which had something in it which was not right and made me feel sick. My wife had scrambled eggs, which I didn't think anyone could mess up. But their cook was able to scorch them on the outside, but still have an uncooked spot, also cold. Hmmm smh. Her bacon was almost black and way too hard. The waitress after being asked and agreeing with the condition. Brought her more, but it was the same. None of us, including the server, could believe it. The waitress was young, but she knew to take that off. That was the only thing removed from the bill. My wife also ordered a "Belgian" waffle. I'm sure it was not fresh, more like bulk toaster waffles from who knows where. It was cold and the butter would not melt on it. Between the bill and the tip, I spent over $40 on the worst breakfast experience we can remember. We go out often and have always in our 35+ years together. We would never recommend this...
