Our experience here was nice. But probably not quite enough to bring us back. I didn't have a problem with the atmosphere. But my family felt that it just seemed a little lacking. The wait staff was very nice. The food was served on large aluminum trays with paper linings, which we really enjoyed.
We started with nachos. They were pretty decent sized. But a little light on pork and a little too heavy on BBQ sauce, which was just too sweet. Also, no jalapeños.
Then came the big meal. We ordered the family meal with pork, brisket, sausage, ribs, beans, potato salad, slaw, onion rings, and okra, and toast. It all came on one giant paper-lined aluminum tray, which we really enjoyed. The ribs had good flavor and were tender. They came mostly clean off the bone. I found them a little dry. The pork was tender with good flavor, but also a little dry. The brisket was the best meat. Really enjoyed the flavor, and it was very tender. But it, too, was just a little dry. The sausage was moist and very well cooked. It had a good flavor that consisted of a little extra sage. It was all smoked nicely, as if someone knew how to do it without over smoking.
The beans were good, but a little too sweet with sort of a strange underlying flavor. One kid thought they tasted a little ash-like. I thought it might be onion powder, but hard to tell. The rest of the sides were outstanding! Love the slaw. Very wet, perfectly sweet with a hint of celery seed. Mmmm Mmm. Potato salad was sort of a creamy baked potato salad. The onion rings were perfectly crisp and not too oily.. and a lot of them. And the okra tasted very fresh, and very abundant. Altogether, it was just shy of just enough for six grown folks.
The water was not filtered, so off-putting taste, and the bathrooms needed a little care. The price was reasonable.
I wouldn't discourage people from going here, and I wouldn't argue with anyone who finds this to be their preferred BBQ joint, but we'll...
Read moreThis food is so good you will not want to brush your teeth. For the Conway area, this is probably the best barbeque and smoked meats place I’ll recommend. This is a sit-down restaurant, but they seem to do a lot of take-out business when we have been there. They have two sauces, a spicy and a sweet. Both have a unique Asian twist that I haven’t figured out….but I find both to be very good. To my surprise, their fried catfish is also, probably the best in this area. I know these are big statements, but after a while, you notice a lot of fried catfish places seem…similar. My wife and I have been so impressed here, that we’ve been back three times. each time, just to try something different on the menu. The staff has always been friendly, courteous, and fun to interact with – it seems quite “family” there. They do have a sports bar on one side – you choose. My wife and I were both raised by Depression Era parents…you know…”you clean your plate”. I must say that this is the first place I’ve been full, very happy, and had to leave a little behind. Please don’t tell my Mom. Oh…I am a new...
Read moreI am a lover of BBQ and have had it at many places. This place didn't disappoint. I have ordered 2 different items on 2 separate occasions both to go. The 1st time was the pulled pork sandwich and it was fully loaded with meat. They didn't skimp at all! I had onion rings with that sandwich and they were good too, a little overcooked but good. The 2nd time I ordered the large brisket and once again they didn't skimp on the meat. The meat was so tender it practically fell apart. I ordered the baked beans with this one and loved them. There was so much meat in both sandwiches that I couldn't finish either in one sitting. I wouldn't call this the BEST BBQ in Conway but it's high up on the list. I saw a review about the brisket being fatty and mine had hardly any fat on it at all. I would say they are a little pricey compared to other places I've been but I'd still get food from there. I wouldn't order a drink to go though because paying that much for such a small drink...
