Summary: I have never been treated so poorly at a restaurant in my life. The service was terrible and seemingly racist. I will not be returning to this location
Long version: I walked in to this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. There were 3 young girls working when I walked in. I was not greeted. I proceeded to the counter and no one took my order. I stood there for 10-15 minutes waiting for someone to take my order. I gave them the benefit of the doubt that they were busy preparing orders from the family of 6 that walked in before me. Regardless, my presence was not acknowledged after 15 minutes of being in the establishment. I sat down waiting for them to approach the counter. At this point, an older couple walked in and the staff immediately greeted them, and another male employee came out of nowhere from the back to take their order. I've seen black on black discrimination before, but I have never felt it this way. The employees, all of which were black, refused to acknowledge my presence, but bent over backwards to take the white couple's order immediately, despite the fact that I had been waiting. I walked up right behind the older couple for my order to be taken; I ordered a large smoothie along with a sandwich. While we were waiting for our food, we noticed the employees were loudly slamming kitchen tools and huffing and puffing, making it very clear they did not want to be there and were visibly unhappy. They gave the couple their sandwich, and the woman said she ordered the buffalo sauce on the side of her meal, but they put it on top instead. A female employee snatched the sandwich out of the customers hand and proceeded to remake the meal very loudly, visibly angry. The customer's jaw dropped in disbelief at the attitude and disrespect she received, but did not say anything. Later, they received two small cups of smoothies, and they say they ordered 1 large smoothie. The employee says they ran out of lids a while ago so they just put it into two small cups instead.
This would not be a big deal, except I also ordered a large, and was not informed I would receive two cups instead. Had I known I would have two containers instead of one, I would have ordered a medium. It does not matter why I did not want two containters, moreso that I was not told in advance they were making modifications to my order without my knowledge or consent. I confront the employee saying I would like to cancel and the young male employee got very agressive saying I needed to "watch my mouth'". All witnesses in the establishment would know I confronted them about their poor attitude, terrible service, and abysmal care for their customers, without raising my voice or swearing. The employee felt attacked and proceeded to verbally attack me. Since I am not intimidated by him, I stood my ground and let him know I did not tolerate being treated this way. I asked for my refund and let all the employees and the manger that I would be writing about my experience in the review. In summary, the employees attempted to degrade my existence by refusing to acknowledge that I am a present, paying customer. My co-workers and I ordered from Tropical Smoothie Cafe via Ubereats. The delivery driver handed me my smoothies (no straws) but there was no food included. When I asked where my food was, she said they didn't give her any. I asked if she was going back and she said she doesn't get paid enough to.
I reached out to the store. The manager on duty said that she would call Uber and see if another driver could deliver it. She called me back to say Uber would not do such a thing. She said there is nothing they could do and that's when I said I would pick up the food considering I was already out $77 that I wouldn't be getting refunded.
(On a side note, Uber refused to refund me as well)
I picked the food up and she said it had been sitting there all along. I asked how it works when delivery drivers pick food up but she placed all the blame on the driver saying that the driver was handed the food. She then said it was their prime time and they were very busy then. I don't understand what that has to do with me getting my order that I paid for...
Returning to work, my co-worker received the wrong wrap!!! The hummus veggie wrap had chicken in it. I again called the store and said my co-worker received the wrong wrap and the manager said ok, she would make it herself. No apology. Seemed like maybe she was used to this happening. My co-worker had to then drive to the store to get her food herself.
I finally calmed down and opened my wrap. Come to find out, my wrap was made improperly as well. I was over it. I just threw it in the trash. I am beyond disappointed in the carelessness that went into reading the orders correctly when making the food. I am upset that they placed all the blame on the Uber driver for not taking the food. I am angry that I had to leave work to pick up the (WRONG) food. I am just in complete disgust with this location. None of us will be ordering from here again. I would rather order from a place that is further away that can get the order notes correct than possibly receive something that we didn't order or worse, have this problem arise again. Read moreA friend of mine from South Carolina highly recommended this chain. I looked it up & found a location 10 min away. I ordered a mocha madness smoothie, delicious, & a baja chicken bowl to eat at work later. Now I'm no stranger to finding stuff in my food. It's an inevitability that I have accepted a long time ago. So after I heated my food, threw in the salsa, and mixed it up, I wasn't too surprised to find a decent sized winged insect in my food. Disappointed, but not surprised. I contacted the restaurant and Bryce apologized & took my contact info so the manager, who wasnt in at the time, could call me back. She did the very next morning. I missed the call, but intended on going back on my way to work. Destiny, the manager, went above and beyond to turn my experience around. She apologized, remade the bowl I was so excited to try, she remade the smoothie, all at no cost to me, and she refunded my money from the day before.
