Rounding up from 3.5 because we can't use half stars.
Came here because I'm staying nearby and hadn't been to a Captain Ds in decades. In fact, I hadn't been since I was a kid (decades ago).
I ordered the sampler and one of the ladies convinced me to get broccoli with cheese as one of my sides.
The good:
The restaurant was clean and the music playing overhead was ... acceptable. A roll of paper towels and hot sauce were at all the tables.
The food wasn't bad. I don't think anyone needs that much "fried" and any meal smaller might have been better, but I wanted to try a little of everything.
The shrimp wasn't too bad. Neither was the chicken, which was very moist. The fish wasn't bad, per se, but there was something missing or being overpowered by the grease from the fryer.
That applies everything I ate. The food was very greasy overall.
The coleslaw was okay, but not special, and the broccoli was underwhelming. It tasted microwaved and not actually steamed. Is it supposed to be steamed? The cheese on the broccoli was watery and left a puddle in my tray.
The tea actually tasted pretty good. Far too often some of these fast food joints don't properly clean their tea pitchers and it tastes rancid. This place had good tea. which I appreciated.
The staff were great. Very friendly and customer service oriented.
The bad:
I've already alluded to the greasiness of the food and can honestly state I won't be having anything fried or cooked with grease for a month or so - or until my arteries clear up.
The soda machine is limited, but covers the bases with Pepsi products.
The floor was so greasy I could slide on it without moving. This is in the dining area. It was so greasy that when a woman with a cane came in, I thought for sure she'd slip and fall. She didn't (but she did call the man she was with a "jerk" and I thought he was going to lose his mind).
Don't get me wrong, the floor is mopped, they're just not using anything that can break down the grease to clean it up.
When I picked up my tray, it didn't have tarter sauce and none was offered to me. I had to go back to the front and ask for some. No other sauces were offered for the chicken or shrimp.
All-in-all this was a 3/3.5 visit. Would I return? Maybe in the far future, once I've forgotten about...
Read moreI used to enjoy their food once upon a time. But seems like since Covid, you can't find a location with fresh food and good service. When I arrived, the manager was carrying a cooler out to his car, I entered, teen workers everywhere so at least they were fully staffed. But I soon discovered it was for no reason, here's what I experienced....I was the second person in line, my order was taken quickly. Behind me was a lady who had come from the drive-thru complaining of hair in her food. Two others placed their orders for dine-in after that.
My 1st red flag was the hair being reported in the food. They agreed to remake her food as the manager requested the teens put on hair nets in the kitchen area. Sidenote: I don't know when he entered the building. Then both dine-in orders placed after mines, were called. I had been waiting some time, I had tripled parked my commercial truck in the lot, I didn't have a big order, and I was questioning my food choice at this point. They were so consumed with remaking the hairy meal they had fumbled, I asked about my order. They insisted they were making sure it was fresh and accurate....lies! I got the order and immediately headed to my truck. My shrimp was tough and clearly over cooked and barely warm. The rice had hard pieces throughout, which meant it was under cooked or old mixed with new portions= not edible! The broccoli was soggy, the okra was stuck together and under cooked. The bread was hard as a rock. But I really blame myself, I knew better than this place. This seems to be the norm for most locations no matter where you go now. I'm a truck driver, so I've had a chance to visit many areas in different states and have determined they have some patterns of poor food and low customer service across the board. If you're thinking of this place for lunch or dinner, check your food for hair....but most importantly think again and go...
