Bernie's Brother Tropical Grill and Bar — Restaurant in Corolla

Bernie's was an unexpected GEM! We went after service at Corolla Chapel, and it was pretty chill, no wait for a table for 7. The servers were quick and attentive to us, food took a reasonable AMT of time, they brought us refills for our waters without us even having to ask, overall a pleasant visit!

The food was delicious! Most of our table got the fish and chips--fish was perfectly flakey, the tartar sauce tasted freshly made (didn't ask if it was, tho,) and the waffle fries were fine. Oh and the coleslaw was great, it wasn't a sopping sweet creamy mess! Pretty sure it was mostly a vinegar based sauce (but may have had some creaminess from mayo, hard to tell it was so well balanced!) And not sickly sweet! We have peeps who avoid sugar and they wholeheartedly enjoyed it.

Two of us got the healthy jerk fish tacos on lettuce. Beware it's a little messy, since the juices just slide off! The jerk seasoning was very light, and the sauces/salsas were nicely balanced. One of our table peeps said they didn't want to try them because salsa Verde can be spicy. It definitely was not. Nor was the fruit salsa very sweet, but provided a pop of freshness!

If you want spicy, tho, go for the wings with Nashville Hot sauce. Again, not super spicy but had some nice heat to it! The provided ranch and bleu cheeses were fine, nothing exciting, but we're good with the wings. Only thing I wished for was more celery--it was like 2 small sticks each, but definitely not a deal breaker.

We also got a coconut shrimp and the shrimp was SO TENDER! I couldn't believe how tender it was, it was cooked PERFECTLY! the coconut coating wasn't sweet at all, just crispy and coconut-y, but the accompanying dressing to drip it was lightly sweet and fresh.

Finally, we also got a steak salad. The steak was cooked PERFECTLY, the Bleu cheese vinaigrette was different but delicious, and it was HUGE! Salad lovers, you will leave happy!

Overall, a wonderful experience and I'm glad we have it a shot! Oh and the prices were super affordable! Highly recommend!

Disappointed! We go in to get seated (small party of 3). First greeting wasn't "Welcome" but "how can I help you?"..no problem just responded party of 3. 30 min wait (still acceptable because reviews were ok). Get seated within the time and Waiter seemed nervous and rushed (still bearable). Wanted to take our drink order but we were ready to order. Placed the order (wings & fries; salmon dinner and a chicken dinner with drink order (3 waters 2 sodas and tea) waiting....................tables all around us getting 2nd and 3rd rounds of drinks....waiting.............excuse me to the waiter...no apology just ok...I'm getting it. Comes back sits drinks on the table for us to sort out.....at this point I'm willing to walk out based on lack of "Great Customer Service"!!! Waiting.................waiter comes back oh sorry no salmon....ok we want the same sides just substitute with chicken...we can't do that those sides only come with salmon...oh so you are out of those sides also "no we just can't price those sides separately"...huh????? He was persistent that those sides couldn't be served separate SMH... Didn't bother with asking for manager because I don't complain when food is being prepared.....long story shortened...after all of this food came out cold and attention to customer service FAILED!

I hate to think it was racially uncomfortable (predominantly non-black customers) or intimidating for the waiter causing what appeared to be overly compensating to a larger party of about 8 African American men and neglected our smaller party. Called family and told them don't bother meeting us here...food sucks!!! Each time someone from my our family asked I pointed out not to eat there....

I frequent many restaurants and from the door to the plate FAILED in welcoming, customer service and food......FAILED!!! Check & tip paid (wasted $$$)...will never return....too many other restaurant options.

Having a very cautious getaway to our favorite place, the beach, what we were concerned about the most was how we would manage dining. So we decided ahead of time to either eat in the car (not optimal) or to eat outside when it was not crowded. So after a long drive we arrived in Corolla, my hubby was ravenously hungry. I had decided with not so many franchise restaurants available here I should probably be prepared to eat salads for a few days. I even brought my own crackers just in case. . But what a fabulous and delicious surprise I found at Bernie's!!!!!!! Go eat here already!!! When I checked out the menu they had items marked gluten free after all and there were very awesome selections! For instance I love, I mean I adore a great chimichurri! And they had a Cuban style steak which I certainly did order with a glass of Pinot Grigio. We had the appetizer of guacamole also yummy. But let me just say the star was the housemade chimichurri and the most tender steak I've had in a long long time. Not chewy, I mean it had to be a hangar cut out was that rich, tender and delicious. I even told the waitress, this steak needs its own menu page it's that fabulous! My hubby even polished off his jerk chicken tacos and still hungry ordered the very same plate as me and cleaned his plate. He loved this place so much he bought a T-shirt, and if they had had a Tervis or coffee mug, so would I. I told my hubby, could we please make it back here one more time before our getaway is over. . And yes they have great outdoor seating options. We sat upstairs and the ocean breezes made it feel even more like we were in...
