All the Korean family vibes served by some very friendly gomos (aunties). I'm trying to remember everything I had because there was so much food, so here goes...
Yuksu Bulgogi Jeongol - I wasn't sure what to expect from this since I don't think I've ever had it. But I liked it more than I thought I would. It has the sukiyaki flavor (so like sweet soy) and comes with lots of meat. Good for sharing and stays hot the whole time since it's on the fire.
Tofu Soup Combo (Mushroom beef soup & bibimbap) - I like that they had a mushroom with beef choice for the soup since I think I usually see it only one way or the other. I got the second hottest spice level and I think I could have just got the spiciest level. Great, developed flavor overall, not too salty, but I just wanted it spicier.
Spicy rice cake with noodles - One of the ultimate Korean street/snack/comfort foods. I feel like I've had it a lot recently and I'm glad the rice cakes in this one were not overcooked. I got the one with noodles (not sure why), but I usually like it without because it leaves more sauce for the rice cakes themselves. The spice level here was moderate as well.
Deep Fried Dumplings - So fresh and crisp! Taste like the ones I've had before that were homemade and fried right in front of me. I think it's like a glass noodle, veggie, meat filling. It comes with a dipping sauce or you can do like me and dip it in the spicy rice cake sauce.
Spicy raw marinated crab - I did not eat this once since I'm not into raw crab. But the wife ate the whole plate and said it was so good. I don't think this dish is that common so it's cool that they have it here.
There was not one banchan that I did not like and I was pleasantly surprised they still give the pancake. I feel like most places used to give this item as a banchan but they all stopped. So glad it was here and be sure to eat it ASAP with the dipping sauce for maximum crispiness.
Besides all the tasty food, the best part was the staff. All the ladies who helped us were super sweet and the chef even asked if we wanted to have our tofu soup reheated since we ordered a lot of food and it took a while to work through it all. It's a much larger place than I thought it was going to be with a good amount of tables. Parking is very easy since there is a large shared lot.
If you need some comforting Korean food and you are in Corona, you don't need to make your way to Buena Park or KTown, stop by...
Read moreDa Rae has become a go-to spot for Korean comfort food. The food is definitely similar to that of other well-being tofu houses. There is no tabletop grill, so it is not like a Korean BBQ place. When dining in, the food comes out fresh and HOT. Soups come out of the kitchen in stone bowls, meat on hot plates, and the banchan is tasty as ever. Some dishes I've had are the Bulgolgi Bibimbap (so so good), and their soup + entrée combo of the Kimchi Soup and Bulgolgi. Another favorite is the scallion pancakes when we're dining in. I have heard great things about the fried rice from friends, and their tteokbokki is REALLY tasty. I would recommend dining in more than takeout just because the food is fresher and it does make a difference. It is still very tasty, but nothing beats the fresh, warm food on a cold or windy day. Whether dining in or picking up, you will be getting banchan - the kimchi, potato salad, pickled cucumbers & radish, seaweed, even the fish cakes! They even have that really good barley tea ready for you. I can go on and on, but I think you get the point. This place is a must for their food. The one aspect I find lacking occasionally is their service. From time to time, when it is busy, they are sometimes slow to refill drinks or they might forget a food item - but keep in mind the larger the order, the more complicated the order, longer the food will take to get to you, since it is made fresh. Those times service was a bit iffy, we had a large order. The ladies are very very sweet and I always asked respectfully if something wasn't quite right, so don't be shy if you aren't sure about an order - they are quick to correct mistakes. However, nothing will stop me from coming to this restaurant. I hope you'll enjoy it just as...
Read moreIt's so nice to have a good Korean restaurant out in the IE area. There are others to be sure, but Darae blows them all away. The quality of the food is the first thing of note, it almost feels like you're having a really, really good home cooked meal, such is the quality of the dishes they offer.
And speaking of the dishes, they offer such a wide expanse of what typical Korean restaurants will oftentimes specialize in, all in one location. We've had their Ssam options, their grilled fish, as well as some of their BBQ options and each one comes up as a winner. I look forward to the fall/winter time so that I can more appropriately try their jigae options. However, their doenjang jigae that they provide with some of their dishes is top notch, and it's almost such a throw away since it's just included.
The service is great, the waitresses make sure that you're taken care of and the food is to your liking. The ambiance is good enough, definitely not a high class place, but good enough where it doesn't detract.
Will most certainly continue to frequent this place, and as my SO says, now we don't have to go to the OC or the SGV area to get a good...
