1983 Mexi-Cafe — Restaurant in Corpus Christi

Nov 14, 2025 Update: I couldn't stop thinking about that crunchy taco shell. Needed the crunch so ordered the crunchy tacos again. Chose the option to add grilled veggies. This is the way‼️ I expected some grilled veggies on top or even the side, but it seems they either have this mixture ready or threw the beef and veggies on the flattop and sautéed together. It's the quality you hope for, but don't necessarily expect you'll get.

Oct 11, 2025 Update: My go to is now Chuy's Combo (5th time ordering it in the last month). Husband's is the taco salad. Tried the crispy tacos today, they are solid, especially for the price point. I would recommend for a picky eater. The ground beef lacks seasoning. But the shell stays super crispy and I love the abundant and vibrant lettuce/tomatoes.

Chuy's Combo - Grilled fajita skirt steak, two enchiladas [cheese] and your choice of one side [rice], large tea and 2 tortillas. Skirt steak is always cooked to order, piping hot and running juices. It's tender, seasoned and has a charbroiled flavor. Today was extra generous, it happens on occasion and is a true sign of local as opposed to corporate. I love their cheese enchiladas with gravy.

My family loves 1983’s food/drinks and we have been on multiple occasions (dine in and pick up.) However we are VERY dissatisfied with 1983 Mexi-Café. We’ve had a party reservation reserved for over two weeks now, called to confirm guests/reservations more than once, made invitations, and now they canceled the reservation THE DAY BEFORE because supposedly the person handling everything “wasn’t a manager.” But that was the person they directed us to each time FOR THE RESERVATION. Mind you: this party was a celebration of life for my grandma who recently passed away whose birthday would have been tomorrow (the day of the reservation.)

Very bad business and we won’t be making a reservation there again, and i recommend you don’t do the same if you want a guaranteed spot. Kikos Mexican Restaurant however made room for us SUPER last minute and thank goodness we have a spot there. I would...

We've came here time after time hoping to have a better experience with the waitresses but they always seem like they don't want to be there. This last time I had asked for no sour cream and she made a upset face then took the plate back to where they just proceeded to scrape it off with a spoon and she never even came to ask if we needed anything not once. Another time the eggs whites were still clear on the top and I asked for them to cook them alittle more and the waitress got upset! The restaurant is great but put your waitresses in check i don't know why they're so upset but it seriously ruins the amazing restaurant. I know I'm gonna get a "I'm sorry please stop by again" but how about you tell your waitresses to be at least fake friendly and actually do there job instead? And yes I tip good for good service but I don't tip good...
