Parking is pretty easy - but then again parking mostly everywhere in Corpus is pretty easy. It's not a very large town. The outside is just part of a dim strip mall in the middle of nowhere.
Inside is better - very well lit. With very strange lamps that seem to be made of straw baskets? There is a rather large waiting area with many many chairs when you walk in. You check in at a podium with the host/hostess and wait for seats. Came around dinner time on a weekend and the place was entirely packed. But still only a 10 minute wait time which ended up being less than 10 minutes. They were so busy we had to wait for them to wash some cups so we could have our drinks haha. I wonder if they are understaffed or were just uncharacteristically busy.
Mahi Mahi tacos w/ substituted rice pilaf and fresh veggies. This dish normally comes with fries but my dinner date switched them out for rice and veggies. The rice interestingly has just two slices of mushroom in it. The veggies were apparently very salty.
Cajun Shrimp and Scallop Pasta (with no scallops) I will have to agree that all dishes here seem very salty. The tomatoes were well cooked and very delicious. The garlic bread wasn't particularly well done - again salty, but it's french bread it's still delicious. Pasta itself has a nice savory creamy/tomato flavor. The shrimp was blackened, over-seasoned and salty.
They weren't kidding when they called this place saltwater - it is /very/ salty here. I would ask for less salt to be used when making your dish.
While you wait you get complimentary homemade chips. There are surprisingly the only not salty thing. They taste very fresh and homemade - highly doubt they are store bought.
On the wall are strange artworks that are mostly seaside themed. They have prices written on them so assume they are for sale...
Read moreOur first time here, my husband and I were very impressed with the quality of the food. Both our entrees were delicious. I had bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp with fried okra and macaroni and cheese. My husband had a Caesar salad, crabmeat stuffed flounder, mashed potatoes & steamed veg. My shrimp came out on a skewer, and the bacon was fully crisp all around...no soft fatty spots. The crabmeat stuffing was delicious and I appreciated it was not full of chopped peppers. The fried okra was freshly made and the Mac & cheese was very creamy and tasty. The Caesar salad had homemade dressing and lots of shaved parmesan over crisp dry greens. It was good, but for my taste, it was too vinegary and more dressing than needed as it pooled slightly on the bottom. The flounder was the best tasting ever. There was a light sauce with capers on top, and the same stuffing I had on my shrimp. Veggies were perfectly steamed and seasoned. The mashed potatoes were real, but could have been offered with butter or gravy instead of coming out plain, even though he thought they were fine. As for service, it was a pleasure to have a pleasant, happy server who kept our water glasses filled with ice & cold water. We ordered our water with lime, and she bought a small dish of extra limes, and checked on us a couple of times during the meal. She was busy, but remained efficient & pleasant. All in all, it was a wonderful dining experience, even though it's not a real fancy place, we felt like it was! The Saltwater Grill is more casual & family friendly, and I would definitely recommend and return. It...
Read moreI dined in years ago. It was not a bad experience at all; however, it was not memorable enough for me to return, I suppose, because I didn't. More recently I moved closer to the restaurant and, after reading so many glowing reviews, I definitely wanted to try it again. I have two toddlers, and I am pregnant, so we ordered carry-out. The service was wonderful, and the food was ready in 10 minutes (which was sort of a red-flag, but I was optimistic - and hungry). Unfortunately, the crab-stuffed shrimp was very unpleasant. It wasn't hot and the shrimp was incredibly tough (it was stretching as I was trying to take a bite). The shrimp on the cajun pasta was just as bad. As I tried to cut through it with a fork, it just bent inward with the fork - I ultimately had to pry it apart with the prongs. The hush puppies were good; the rice was good; the green beans were tough and bitter; the bread pudding was the best item but even it showed much room for improvement (it was dry, burnt on one side, and needed caramel sauce badly). Even my husband (who never complains about food) admitted that it was all surprisingly bad. The manager I spoke with was very nice, and he and the server who took my order are the only reason this is a "2" instead of a "1." Perhaps my experience was a fluke because there are so many other pleased customers - or perhaps carry-out is not the way to go with this restaurant; I probably will never know because I have no reason to give them another shot with all the other...
