I was SOOOO EXCITED to finally try this place! Some co worker had RAVED about it and for years I wanted to try it, but dont visit the island often. So I started by calling, I tried to dine at this restaurant before but last time it was a 45 min wait and with small children that's just too long. So I was THRILLED when I called and she said no wait. We were not even 5 min from the restaurant so we went on over and when we got there all of a sudden there was a 25 min wait. With several empty tables that could've been used but for some reason they were not being cleaned. They weren't extremely busy to where they couldn't handle it, in my opinion. We decided to wait the 25 min. It was slightly over 25 min, no big deal. When we were seated our waitress took a while each time she came to us and wasn't the friendliest, nor the most knowledgeable. I asked about the specials I had seen on the board at the entrance she didn't know them she had to run and write them down and come back. I was under the impression that when restaurant writes on boards at the entrance that those entrees are on special. She inormed me they were regular price and just merely suggestions. Why a seafood bar and grill would suggest a chicken tenders entree is beyond me. But my husband told me it's normal, just something I hadn't seen before. I was a little annoyed by this but carried on. Then when ordering I noticed none of the entrees came with sides besides some with asparagus or zucchini. The entrees are over priced to not come with decent sides. If you wanted to substitute the awful sides they came with is was a $3 charge, TO SUBSTITUTE. It was a $4.50 charge to just order the side by itself. I chose to have the Stuffed Flounder. $26 plus a $3 to substitute asparagus for mac and cheese. Our waitress had said they were out of mac and cheese at first but then quickly said oh never mind. When my entree was brought, I will give credit where it's due, and say the flounder was delicious, however the portion is small for the price. They add a bunch of the stuffing in the middle to make it seem like a bigger serving of flounder than what it actually is. The mac and cheese was inedible. It was cold, hard, and gross. I had her exchange it for a side salad which was also inedible. At this point my patience is thin and I just wanted to leave. I didnt feel like sending my side back again and having them remake plates, we were there long enough. Aside from he 30 min wait, we were there almost another hour ordering and waiting. We didn't spend much time eating as the food was terrible. We took our child's meal to go and what was left of my husbands plate also. My husbands salmon still had the skin at the bottom, have never seen it served that way in a restaurant, but again heard it is served this way sometimes. His baked potato, that we also payed $3 to sub was hard and burnt. In total we spent $90, I know that may not be alot to some, but when you dont eat out often and want to treat your family to a place you've been anticipating to go to for a long time you'd expect it to be good. This place is completely awful, it's all hype, terrible expirience, terrible food, terrible service, overpriced, small portions, cold food. We will not be returning and are HIGHLY DISAPPOINTED by the whole experience dining here.
I don't write many reviews, I took my time on this one because I feel its needed. The owners need to see what's going on and take some accountability or make some changes. I didn't take pictures at the restaurant but the 2 pictures I attach below, show how burnt the potato was and the skin we had to peel off the salmon. For the cost the food needs to be fresh and it should say on the menu the skin is attached or something because I personally don't know anyone who eats it.
I hope for the sake of future customers dining there and the reputation this place has that it makes the...
Read moreMy original review is followed because I didn't want to leave only a negative one. This is the second time we have been given poor service due to lack of communication between workers. Not sure what happened but whatever changes has caused a bad ripple effect. Today we were told it was a 25 minute wait which turned to 35 so that shift change could take place (mind you we weren't told about this, but after overhearing the majority of servers saying we are waiting till 3 was the give away). This is ineffective only for the fact now you have 9 parties waiting to be sat all at the same time at 3. Now there is a back up in the kitchen... the fun part is that we ordered food only to wait another 20 minutes to be told that what we ordered want available... after switching our order, we waited another 25 minutes to ask about our food to be told he had just checked and it wasn't available (can't see food if your taking another table order but okay). Bottom line 1 hour and 10 minutes at a table with 2 orders of drinks and not one item of food. I kindly asked for the ticket as my family left the establishment and paid for the drinks we had. Not once did management come to see if anything could be done or asked about the experience. Our waiter Nick then left me at the table waiting for change since he didn't have it as he then proceeded to give me less than what he owed me. Guess they took gratuity for the service. Never have I felt so disrespected by a place that I used to like. Believe you me I really wanted that fish plate, but never again will I recommend or advise people to come here. Truly disappointing.
Great place whenever you get a chance to get away and eat. Either or, the menu and the bar have everything to satisfy even the pickiest of people. I have a family of 5 that won't compromise at times, and we manage to make it work here. Everyday they have a happy hour, and on certain days live music. Can't beat the atmosphere, so get some oysters while you wait for your meal (I went with the scuttlebutt platter). With everything from ribeye, burgers, and chicken fried steak...to sushi, seafood, and pasta. You won't be disappointed. So jump on in, the...
Read moreMy family ate at Scuttlebutt's this past weekend on a trip to Corpus/Mustang Island. There was a menu in our VRBO condo, and a quick Google search showed the place as having a great rating. If you find yourself in a similar situation, please take the rave reviews with a grain of salt! Parking is quite a challenge. Then there is always at least a 30 minute wait for a table. Fine; that means it's a good place and everyone wants to be there, right? Well....maybe. They text you when your table is ready, but this is a dicey proposition because the place is so bloody LOUD that you can't hear your phone. In fact, you can't hear anything! Conversation is virtually impossible, even after being seated at your table. Trying to get an app while you wait is a near Herculean task because there isn't really any place for walk-up service at the bar, and the chairs at the bar are filled. When we finally got a table and ordered our food, the wait for both our drinks and our food was longer than we were comfortable with. I ordered the Scuttlebutt's Punch; it was warm and watery - do not recommend. My husband and sister ordered the salmon which was overcooked and dry. I had the coconut shrimp which had no taste of coconut at all, and were also overcooked. The best thing on my plate was the grilled zucchini. One does not go to a restaurant for the vegetable side dish. Speaking of side dishes, that "tropical rice" that is served with nearly every dish? Avoid it like the plague. It is overcooked and beyond tasteless. How do you mess up rice, for heaven's sake???? Overall, this was just a bad experience and we were extremely disappointed. We went in with such great expectations, but they were well and truly tromped on. Do not recommend and...
