Update 14 Feb 25:
I finally came back after the hype died down. I was able to get The Matty, its worth the wait. Its a very dense burger with a lot of good flavor. The wait was not long even though they say its an extended wait. I'm glad I was able to come back after they got their kinks figured out. Its definitely a place to stop by if you are in the area. Part of my order was miscommunictated, but the music is extremely loud for a small area. Overall a much better experience and would come back. ——————————————— I may update this later, possibly, after the hype has died down. First the wait is pretty long to get in and order (to be expected). What is not expected is that the wait for the food is at minimum 30 minutes according to one of the staff. We had about four or five groups behind us that got their food before us. I ordered three burgers and only got two of the three because of the point of sale, there is only one cashier. Once my meal came out I realize that it was missing a burger, specifically the Matty’s burger, which takes 20 minutes to make a medium rare burger. I opted for just a plain single cheeseburger since I had already waited from, placing the order to getting my incorrect order, 35 minutes. luckily, they were able to get me the single patty pretty quickly as I was waiting at the counter. I will say that the main staff was pretty helpful at apologizing and giving me a T-shirt, and asked if I wanted anything else. I just wanted the food that’s it. I will try this place again once the overall opening is done. One thing I would recommend is that they add a military discount option as most places have that.
Overall, I think it’s just another Smashburger restaurant with slightly more cost possibly because of the area or the name behind the restaurant. I also think it’s weird that you have to pay for generic burger toppings,...
Read moreI'm only writing this in hopes that it can be seen by management or the owners. I promise you, I wanted so desperately to love this place. I am a huge fan of Matty Matheson and I love a good simple burger. The vibe inside is great, but the overall experience I had here was pretty abysmal. I have never waited so long to get a fast food burger. 45 minutes to wait in a short line and get three items seems a little ridiculous considering the simplicity of the menu items available. Then, the food itself: for $12 I'd expect something on the more gourmet side of fast food. This was however, pretty disappointing. The menu described the "Matty's" as cooked to pink, but both of ours were completely well done. Flavor was quite underwhelming, and the beef itself didn't taste very good. Toppings were fine, but I would've preferred something more than just mustard, onions and pickles with a patty so bland. I didn't order any extra sauce, but seeing as each cup of sauce is $1.50, I'm not sure it would have made a difference.
My suggestion to management: figure out how to turn out food much faster, get two people on the registers, and consider making side sauces cheaper.
To customers: wait till hype dies down, order a smash burger, add a sauce on the side to add flavor, and don't get poutine unless you like soggy fries.
I'd give this a second chance if I felt like the wait had gone down, but until then I will not be returning. And I'm so disappointed to feel this way.
2 more things, the employees were all really nice. Just wanted to note that. And second, I didn't feel very good when I got home. Not sure if it was the burger or the poutine, but something didn't agree...
Read moreIf you're in Costa Mesa and you're tired of hearing your dining companions, Matty's Patrys has you covered. The music is so tastefully curated, you'll feel like you're standing next to a speaker at a concert, which makes the simple act of ordering your food a delightful game of charades with the staff. It's a truly a-la-carte experience—you get the burger, and they get to guess what you're yelling at them. The seating is an experience in itself. While I'm genuinely surprised a man of Matty Matheson's... substantial stature... would choose old metal folding chairs with all the ergonomic appeal of a medieval torture device, the lack of cushioning is a brilliant way to ensure you don't overstay your welcome. Plus, the patina of rust and age on those chairs serves as a subtle reminder that you should probably have your tetanus shots up to date before sitting down. It’s a complimentary health check with your meal. For a place that prides itself on "smash" burgers, the only thing getting smashed is your timeline. Our order for two burgers took over 25 minutes to arrive. Perhaps the delay is a feature, not a bug, designed to build anticipation. Or maybe they are just preparing each patty with the meticulous care and precision of a Swiss watchmaker. Either way, if you like your burgers served with a side of existential dread and a complete lack of conversation, this is the...
