Let me confess: I'm one of those people who can’t go a day without thinking about Plum’s cinnamon roll. It’s a borderline obsession, but once you’ve tasted it, you’ll understand why. The roll itself is an art form. It arrives fresh from the oven, its golden exterior glistening with a delicate glaze that hints at the wonders inside. As you unravel its soft, buttery layers, the aroma of cinnamon and sugar envelops you, promising a sensory delight.
The texture is nothing short of divine. Each bite reveals a perfectly balanced blend of light, fluffy dough and a rich, gooey cinnamon-sugar filling that strikes the ideal harmony between sweet and spicy. The crowning glory is the velvety frosting, generously slathered on top and seeping into every nook and cranny. It’s this sublime fusion of flavors and textures that transforms a simple pastry into an addictive experience.
Plum has a dedicated fanbase that borders on fanatical. There’s an unspoken camaraderie among us regulars, a shared understanding of the sheer magic that is Plum’s cinnamon roll. We gather outside the bakery early in the morning, rain or shine, united in our quest for that daily dose of perfection. Don't let the unassuming strip mall exterior turn you away – Plums Cafe is a hidden gem offering modern comfort food and top-notch brunch in Costa Mesa. While the tucked-away outdoor seating might not be ideal for everyone, the inviting interior instantly drew us in.
Speaking of warm, the French dip I devoured was pure molten comfort. Perfectly tender roast beef piled high on a toasted baguette, with fresh roasted bell peppers, with a rich and flavorful au jus and French fries on the side that had me savoring every bite. My friend's brie boysenberry toast was an explosion of sweet and savory, the creamy brie balanced beautifully by the tangy boysenberries and a touch of sweetness from the toast. Both portions were generous, leaving us completely satisfied without feeling overstuffed.
My cappuccino was the perfect post-meal pick-me-up. Creamy, frothy, and bursting with coffee flavor, it was just a tad too hot initially, but that's a minor quibble in the face of its overall deliciousness.
While the outdoor area might not be the cafe's strongest point, the warm ambiance, friendly service, and, most importantly, the incredible food make Plums Cafe a top contender for brunch and breakfast. I'll be back to try more of their menu, and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hidden gem with fresh, flavorful food and a cozy atmosphere. Tips: Don't let the strip mall location deter you – step inside and be surprised! The portions are generous, so come hungry. If you're sensitive to heat, ask for your cappuccino a bit lukewarm. Definitely try the French dip and brie boysenberry toast – they were outstanding!
Overall:A hidden gem with delicious food and a modern, inviting atmosphere. Perfect for brunch...
Read moreWow. I was really impressed with this little breakfast restaurant down in Costa Mesa. I was visiting the area this past weekend from West LA and chose Plums because I had heard great things. I can confirm that it is really great and it was honestly better than I was expecting. What makes this place unique is that they have really unique menu items and everything is executed really well. It’s in a small shopping center so there’s plenty of free parking right out front and it’s quite large on the inside. They have a lot of tables inside, and also have outdoor seating that is dog friendly. Our server was very polite and although the wait times are not as fast as a diner, we didn’t have to wait very long for our items.
I will say this is one of the best breakfasts that I’ve had this year, everything was seriously delicious. I started off with a Cinnamon Roll Latte and thought it was fantastic. It had great flavors and was pretty strong. Next we split the Giant Cinnamon Roll and it was amazing. It was way larger than I was expecting but somehow it was gooey and perfectly sweet throughout. It was not overly hard, or crunchy. For my breakfast I chose the Santa Fe Eggs Benedict Server Style, which means they swap out the ham for bacon and add avocado. This was absolutely fantastic. I especially liked the hollandaise, you can tell it was fresh and homemade and it had great flavoring. The eggs were also cooked perfectly and the bacon was unique and very peppery. It almost tasted like candy bacon it was that good.
Overall a fantastic breakfast option and I would say it is one of my very favorite breakfast spots in all of Orange County. I would highly recommend to anyone in Orange County or even to anyone in Los Angeles or San Diego because it really is...
