Wahoo's Fish Taco — Restaurant in Costa Mesa

Don’t know what’s up with Wahoo’s and always getting your order wrong. It’s all locations it seems like or this one is especially bad. Even when I order straight off the menu with zero additions or substitutions they still manage to mess up my food. I work in the area and was taking my lunch here a few times a week. Very rarely did I get my food without any issues.

The last time I visited I ordered a Hawaiian Onion Ring Burrito. It comes with Teriyaki steak, Maui Onion Rings, cheese, rice, sour cream and spicy Maria’s green sauce. I asked for no cheese or sour cream. I took two bites and instead of putting their steak in the burrito the cook put carnitas instead. I don’t eat pork and went up and asked them for a refund because instead of steak, they put carnitas instead. I didn’t have time to wait for them to make me another burrito because I was on my 30 min lunch break.

The poor girl at the counter understood and was going to give me a refund. The cook overheard and started arguing with me that the burrito comes with carnitas. Even the girl at the front knew that it comes with steak and not carnitas and started arguing with the cook as well. It wasn’t till I told her to come and look at the menu and repeated to her teriyaki steak, teriyaki steak, till she was like oh it comes with steak!? Got my refund on my food and haven’t...

First visit in years, where I was not a fan of their grilled fish tacos in previous visits, which always tasted a little dry to me. In this visit, I was pleasantly surprised to see enchiladas, which is among my favorite dishes, on their menu. I had also read that they added battered fish tacos to the menus, which has been my preferred style of fish taco.

So I ordered their #1 entrée, which I chose the enchilada with shrimp, and sides of spicy Cajun beans and brown rice, and ordered a battered fish taco on the side. The enchilada had generous amounts of melted cheese and enchilada sauce and was excellent. The battered fish taco was better than I expected also.

After not visiting for years, my first return back was much better than expected, and I plan to visit often in the near future. Finding good enchiladas in OC has been a challenge in the past, and Wahoo's is now a good option to satisfy this craving. It will be fun to try the other meat options in their enchiladas...

I love Wahoo's! I get food here a few times per week!! I know, lazy but this place is great! I have a few dishes that really work for me and my diet! Spicy fish taco plate, skinny style with cauliflower rice and black beans... so dang good! I like the Kale Kai salad with... yep, spicy fish. Lol. So tasty I don't Even need dressing! Just some pico and its delish! I also really love the tofu here. It has a slight teriyaki seasoning and is a great protein alternative. The other thing I get here is the chicken tortilla soup. Great flavor, lots of veggies, nice chunks of chicken, super tasty! Make it super with cauliflower rice and you will love it! The staff is always helpful and very nice! Love love this place!
