This spot opened in place of Cancun Cafe, and while it’s definitely different, the food is excellent. It’s now more of a fast-casual setup—you order at the window and can either take your food to go or sit and eat at one of the many tables available. I’ve been a few times since they opened and have really enjoyed everything I’ve tried. The tacos—especially the lamb—are fantastic. On Saturday of last weekend, I was told what a great restaurant this was and they had great food. I left cutting my hair and my beard being trimmed and came over and ordered three tacos spicy and sweet and they were wonderful today. I thought I would go back and order what I love the most, which was a chicken smothered burrito with chili Verde sauce. I did not look at my order and went home and started working until I became hungry to my disappointment. There was no chili Verde sauce on my burrito and no sour cream. It was a dry disappoint. Taqueria El Rey de Oros is perhaps one of the few authentic Mexican food places in the entire Salt Lake Valley. As a native Los Angeleno, I grew up with Mexican cuisine everywhere - real carne asada, fantastic street tacos, and hand made horchata.
