Barley's — Restaurant in Council Bluffs

I'd love to give this a 5 star because we eat here ALL THE TIME, but it wouldn't be accurate. The food is good don't get me wrong and they have a ton of beer to choose from on tap, but the servers are so hit and miss. There are a few who have worked here for years who have no personality whatsoever. It hasn't really stopped me from going I'll admit because honestly it's one of the better bars in Council Bluffs. I'd rather deal with chancing the mood of our waiter over the rowdiness of any other hundred block bar. All-in-all decent prices, well-made drinks, cool atmosphere. Has an older crowd most of the day that fades out by 9pm, after that it can get a little wild in there (100 block in general especially after 11pm). Advice for the staff: you work in a customer-based business.. smile once in a while, focus less on talking to your co-workers and more on making the guests happy. Also, the sound system is awfully loud and painful to listen too. Maybe turn it down or put those foam blocks on the ceiling and walls to help absorb some of the shrill. I do want to add though, if I could take away "best pizza in town" from Pizza King, I would give it to you guys. 5...

In town on a Wednesday for business and I stopped here from the positive reviews it had online. Decent crowd that was participating in trivia. I sat at the bar and was waited on after about 5 minutes. I ordered a beer on tap, which I was told they ran out of (Miller Lite). I proceeded to get a bottle and then ordered food. My food came out extremely fast which was the only thing fast about this place. I had to ask for napkins and then asked the server who brought my food out to me for ketchup. She brought me a bottle and said to me “it is low”, meaning there isn’t much left. I handed it back and said “there is nothing in here”, which there wasn’t. It shouldn’t have been brought to me in the first place. She then came back with a full bottle and slammed it down on the bar at the seat next to me on top of a stack of menus. Later, the bartender asked if I was doing ok and I asked for another beer. It was close to 10 minutes later that I received that beer. In fact at that point I was already done with my meal and actually didn’t want it anymore. Food was decent. Service was terrible. Maybe they specialize in trivia and nothing else. One star...

Order...... Chicken nachos, house made fried flour chips,.. generous portion of chips and toppings. I am a fan of this type of chip, good flavor.. My wife however said she would prefer shredded vs cubed chicken

That aside, pretty sure these were heated in a microwave and the cubed chicken may be packaged.. I walked down to where you can look into the kitchen and sure enough, there was chef Microwave. Not a big deal, and they do taste good. 3.5/5

Normally I go into more detail about texture, flavor, etc. But Something quickly occurs to us... And we've been doing this many years, I'm fairly certain, everything is pre-made.

The Patty screams Sam's club. Even the CFS appears pre-made..

For a quick meal, this place isn't terrible, but it's a one and done for us..
