Really neat place! If you're heat sensitive, I suggest visiting in the cooler months because though it is air conditioned, only the office and fourth floor warden's apartment are cool. There is a lot to see - we were there for 2 hours and to be honest I'd have liked to stay longer because I didn't get a chance to read some of the stuff. When you're in the check in office, be sure to take advantage of the solitary confinement cage - my uncle stood inside it and I went around to the other side and got some fun photos. You can also have someone close the door while you're in there (it doesn't lock) and see just how small and cramped the solitary would have been. All the displays have a lot of information, so be ready to read! Also, important to know, the public bathroom is one of the original bathrooms, which I...
Read moreWhat an awesome place to visit. This historical site was so interesting and an awesome learning experience. I have never heard of this place ever before. There are three locations one in Indiana that the actual cage still turns, the one in Missouri does not turn and the one in Iowa does not turn. But doing a complete walk-through of all four levels of the jailI and seeing and experiencing what these inmates experienced was amazing. It’s a part of history that everybody should see and learn about. I never knew this existed. The staff was friendly and answered all of our questions. To learn that they even have juveniles and women housed here is amazing. And the fact that the warden and his wife lived at the top and that the wife would cook for the inmates is mind blowing. It’s definitely a historical site you...

Not only that, a lil antagonizing got me called " a little ess ach eye tee" by the woman that we figure is not only in the picture hanging on the wall of the room with the only working toilet in the place, but may be attached to it as well. As we started to say our goodbyes, one voice had become very communicative with my daughter and we heard " Please don't go." Wish we could remember the name of our tour guide. She was AMAZING!! Well worth the time and money. We even left before our time was up due to some of us feeling...
