Pizza King — Restaurant in Council Bluffs

This place blew my mind!!!! I knew that they had prime rib on the weekend and have see people post about it on FB so I had to try it.

When you get there, this place is very nice looking and really has the feel of a fancy steakhouse instead of a pizzeria.

Clearly they are a very good Italian place that decided to stake their name in with the pizza.

My husband and I both ordered their regular cut and I would guess it was around 14 oz. I got medium and my husband got medium rare.

I added sautéed onions on mine and he added mushrooms. The onions were excellent but my husband said the mushrooms must have been canned so they weren't as good as he was hoping.

Now. The star of this steak and the reason is has replaced the Drover as my FAVORITE prime rib in the metro is the au jus. It wasn't just a brown liquid that has a bit of flavor. It was thick, closer to gravy than water and so flavorful it was like smothering the steak in a warm brown sheet of delight. I have never in my life enjoyed a prime rib that much. The whiskey prime at Drover is excellent but it will never be on par with PK for the Jus.

The salad was basic and the buttered green beans that were the veggie option tonight were canned and you can tell in the flavor. But even if everything else was just meh in comparison, the steak stole the show and I will most definitely be back to enjoy that melt in your mouth...

May 2023: My first time trying Pizza King after hearing about how it is hands down the best for years....unfortunately I was underwhelmed. We ordered an all meat & a hamburger jalapeno pizza with a side of mozzarella sticks. The all meat pizza was okay, but I just could not do the hamburger jalapeno. The hamburger is ground so tiny it makes me think I'm eating sand & with that said there was barely any sauce on both of the pizzas. Not sure if this is normal or maybe we just hit an off day, but I'm sorry, I do not think they are by any means the "king" of pizza. I would come back to try something else off the menu to give them another chance.

March 2024: Husband brought home a to-go order for me chicken alfredo with veggies and a side salad. My salad was pretty darn sad looking iceberg greens that were wilting and browning. I tried to find some greens that looked safe and regretted eating them - I did eat the tomato and cucumber, they looked fresh & tasted great. As for my meal, there was absolutely no flavor to my chicken alfredo, I put black pepper on it at home, but it still wasn't enough. The veggies were great, steamed nicely and easy to eat, but unfortunately the chicken was tough. I gave it another shot and unfortunately this "local gem" is not for me. I can't see what the hype is about to fill the parking lot at this place....but everyone is different, so to...

I would not go to this restaurant! I should have known what was coming when the owner came up to my table complaining to a high school classmate of his that meat prices were outrageous for him. Maybe he has begun to purchase cheaper meat so as to keep from shutting the place down. I ordered a $40 ribeye and my friend ordered a $40 filet mignon. Hers came out overcooked and my was a plate of grizzle. We sent both steaks back even though the owner came to our table contesting our problem with the steaks. They brought out two new steaks. My ribeye was incredibly tasteless n tough. My friends Filet was tough tasteless and overcooked. IT GETS WORSE!After I paid the restaurant almost $100 for the worst steak I have ever had the owner came running out to my vehicle in the parking lot! I thought he was going to apologize for the nightmare dinner as I would apologize if one of my customers has a horrific experience with my company. Instead he came to my car and stated "I don't like you.
