I've been to Kyuramen in Cranberry Township three times since it recently opened, and it's gotten better with each visit.
The first time, my wife and I stopped in during what I believe was their second or third day open. The service was a bit off, understandable for a brand-new restaurant, but the food was excellent. We ordered the combo with appetizers and dessert, and everything was delicious. I still don’t know what magic they put in the popcorn chicken, but you have to try it.
On our second visit, we brought our two kids. Once again, the food was amazing, though the service still felt a little unpolished. The staff didn’t seem very attentive, but we ended up winning a free bowl of ramen, which definitely made our day!
Today was my third and most recent visit, and it was by far the best experience yet. I went solo and sat at the bar. The service was fantastic: quick, friendly, and attentive. I didn’t have to wait long for anything, and everything ran smoothly. Best of all, I found my new favorite dish: the Tonkatsu Curry Ramen. Absolutely delicious.
Overall, it feels like Kyuramen has hit its stride. The food has always been a standout, and now the service is catching up. Highly recommend giving it a try, especially that...
Read moreNestled in Cranberry, there appears to be an incredibly atmospheric ramen shop that serves up authentic Japanese dishes and other Asian cuisine, but mainly favored towards Japanese ramen. The restaurant itself features beautiful honeycomb shaped booths for 2 to 4 and traditional Japanese, behind a curtain seating for what could appear to be up to 6 people, giving the patrons a quiet space, sequestered from the rest of the dining area. The kind of seating that you would see at a traditional Japanese restaurant. I feel like someone could be entertaining colleagues and a boss behind these curtains. The decor only seems to accentuate the authentic dining area that gives a reminder to busy Tokyo or even Osaka life whilst paying homage to a land that does not seem so distant when you visit. There is a counter where, not only you eat from, but can also watch the preparation of the ramen and other various cuisine this little slice of Japan has to offer. Conventionally, it takes a lot for me to give 5 Stats, but this little slice of modern Japan in Cranberry has since caught not only my attention, but my belly's...
Read moreOverall, a fantastic experience. I had been excited about finally getting a ramen bar in the area—Cranberry is completely devoid of Japanese food—and I have only positive things to say! The tonkatsu ramen was fantastic, and for a chain they do a great job. Bao buns were very good quality as well.
I suppose my only complaint would be the atmosphere. The East Liberty location has popular J-Pop songs playing—YOASOBI, yama, ano, TOOBOE, Official Huge Dandeism, A Crow is White… just some of what I heard the two times I went there. I think the atmosphere at this location would really benefit from applying the same. Nowhere in Cranberry can you hear J-Pop playing in public, and you’d expect a modern kitschy Japanese ramen bar to be the one place you could get that. Instead there was some (practically inaudible) American RnB playing. Just hurt the atmosphere a little.
Because of this, I’d still prefer to go to the East Liberty location, but when I’m Cranberry I wouldn’t hesitate to stop by here! Definitely...
