This was our first time dining at El Charro. As we entered, we were impressed with the decor: very colorful with detailed tables and chairs. It was lively and busy with a lunch crowd. We had to wait a little while before we were acknowledged and seated, but the service was friendly and prompt when we were seated. We were served chips and a delicious homemade salsa, made from fresh puree tomatoes, that was very different than salsas we had at other Mexican restaurants. The menu offered many delicious choices. I ordered the horchata drink, which was delicious and a perfect compliment to the spicy food. My wife ordered the Chili Rellenos, which was stuffed with shredded chicken. I ordered a dinner-sized nachos with the shredded chicken. We also ordered Arroz Con Pollo to share, which included beans and rice. The chicken was succulent and tender. The rice had a delicious flavor ('wok hei') and the beans were rich and flavorful. The portions were very good and filling so much so that we had to bring some home. Overall, our experience on all fronts was exceedingly positive. The parking is a little tight, though. We will definitely make El Charro a "must stop" next time we're in...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhat a pleasant surprise it was to find this awesome restaurant in Crawfordsville, Indiana! I grew up in Miami, Florida and thereās Mexican restaurants all over the place. None of them were as good as El Charroās! First impression from the outside was your typical restaurant in a small downtown setting. When we walked in, it was BAM! Very colorful and unique like Iāve never seen in a restaurant before. The owners really went out of their way and spared no expense on the ambiance. The best part is the food. The menu is extensive and covers almost everything Mexican. We settled on the El Charro fajitas and man they didnāt disappoint! It had chicken, steak and chorizo, along with an equal amount of onions, red, yellow and green bell peppers. Truly delicious! The kicker was when they brought the red and yellow squeeze bottlesā¦like youād put ketchup and mustard inā¦only they were filled with some spicy red (hotter) and a yellowish (hot and garlicky) sauces, amazing! Crawfordsville is really lucky to have this authentic, amazing restaurant...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreOne of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to in a long long time. Was waiting in the area to meet someone for a car part purchase and decided to stop for some food, and I'm very glad I did.
Friendly waiters, absolutely huge selection on the menu, and nice assortment of drinks! Also quite literally some of the best salsa I have ever tasted, and I've had quite a few different kinds! Also very very fast service, I ordered Al Pastor Huaraches, and a Modelo, and both were in front of me by the time I finished my salsa.
Decor and music playing were also on point!! Very festive atmosphere and there is even a grocery store on site with many different tasty treats. Got an ice cream on the way out and felt like a happy Burmese python that had devoured a whole deer. I had some trouble trying not to fall asleep on the way back home to Lafayette! š šš
Awesome place and I'll definitely make another drive to Crawfordsville just to try something else on the menu!!! It's worth every penny spent and every drop of gas it takes to get...
