Moe's Original BBQ — Restaurant in Cullman

They generally have very decent food here, sometimes downright good food. They have a small, varied assortment of draft beer at reasonable prices. Sometimes they have a pretty decent band on the weekend, sometimes only a vocalist strumming chords on a guitar, and sometimes no entertainment at all. And IMO, they have a very good atmosphere, including a place to dine outdoors when the weather is nice.

My two biggest complaints are:

1. They run out of things too often.... sometimes it's one or more types of draft beer they are out of, and many times they are out of one or more food items on the menu before 6:30pm. This has been an ongoing issue for most of the time Moe's has been at this location.
2. Single person restrooms, meaning that you can't even wash your hands if someone else is using the restroom (or vice versa).

02/08/2025 Update: The last 3 times I've eaten at Moe's, they've been out of catfish before 6:45pm, and tonight they were also out of ribs. Several months ago when I was ordering food, I asked the order taker who had worked there for many months at that time, if they had catfish tonight. His reply was "we always have catfish". Past experience had clearly proven this wasn't true, and I should have corrected him at that point, but I just let it go and ordered catfish. Tonight that same employee was taking my order, and he was the one that told me they were out of catfish.

Their current chalkboard menu says "We operate on a first come first served basis, so...when it's gone, IT'S GONE! This seems to be their justification for routinely being out of varous things. At a minimum, it relieves them from placing blame where it belongs.... ON MANAGEMENT. I eat out around Cullman quite often, and based on my experiences, this modus operandi is unique to Moe's... and in my opinion, very unprofessional and considerably less than acceptable. I have been going here for a good while and have always enjoyed the chicken nachos. I hate to say it but I will not be returning. This is the second time I’ve received awful service here. I ordered two chicken nachos and a water and a sweet tea. I was charged a regular drink price for the water. I went to get some sweet tea and I noticed they were out. I went up to the counter to see if they had any in the back, and the cashier refused to come up to the counter. The cook in the back had to motion to the girl there that I was there. I politely asked for sweet tea and she gave me a rude look and told me to go to the bar for some. I went up to the bartender and she looked very confused that I was asking for sweet tea. The BARTENDER had to go get sweet tea made. Is that not the job of the girl that works in the food area? After all that I was sitting at a table waiting for my food with my table marker. I noticed people that had ordered after me got their food before me. My food had been put on a random table and just left there. The cashier apparently noticed that there was a bag of food on a table THEN she brought it to me. When I asked why my food was not brought to me (I had a table marker) she very rudely told me that to go orders are put on that table like it was my fault. The people behind me weren’t at that table. Their food was brought directly to the table they were sitting at. This is the second awful interaction I’ve had with the exact same employee on two different occasions. She has no business being a cashier if she’s going to be rude. She needs to go. I will miss the food, but she has ruined this entire...

We had a party of four at lunch one weekday day and found Moe's BBQ friendly and comfortable. The facility while older was clean and functioning well. The staff is friendly and I think its kind of order at the window and seat yourself. They have a nice open outdoor courtyard that would be great when the weather is cooperating. The indoors portion has a nice bar along one side with large tables in the middle and booth seating on the other side of the space. There's a window for ordering and a self serve soft drink fountain. They even have a small stage for live music.

We had a salad with smoked chicken. The fried catfish and sides were delicious and and the Fried Green Tomato BLT was out of this world. Dont forget the smoked wings, very tasty and well cooked, not under cooked. All the food was tasty and served well. So dont go here expecting fancy service or white tablecloths, but it will be good solid Southern style BBQ that tastes great. Service was good from the window thru the back of the house and on out into the front where runners bring your food to your table. Bathrooms were clean, stocked and functional.
