Very neat setup and layout, complete with a pleasant atmosphere and interesting patio. The service... not so great. It takes a LOT for me to not tip, and the service tonight has earned the first occurrence of that in over 3 years. We brought a group of 23, plus a dog and an infant, to an otherwise almost-empty establishment. I was greeted after only a couple of minutes, and asked for a minute or two to review the beer list, but then the waitress (septum piercing) never came back and it was over 10 minutes later that I saw her across the patio and had to call out to get her attention so she would come over. Then, it was over 15 minutes before I got my draft beer, and I even saw her go to the same other table multiple times without ever coming back to check on our table, much less bring a simple draft. When she was walking past our table, I raised my hand, and then she said that my drink was "in the well", and that's not an expression I'm familiar with but I did not get a response when I asked what it meant. I know I wasn't imagining this, because four separate people in my group had comments about how long it took for her to come and take my order and how much longer it was taking for the draft beer to come. I was never rude, I was never discourteous, but it definitely seemed that the service had to have...
Read moreI’d love to give it a 5 star review, and everyone reading, it has nothing to do with service, but rather the decision to remove all of the food options. Used to love to come in for the PB&J and chocolate milk, the brisket tacos, the awesome variety of hot dogs and the roast beef sandwich with the garlic aioli, but tonight I walked in and saw a severely downsized menu. I understand dropping menu items that don’t sell well and the cost of goods vs sold not matching up, but it just feels like it was decided to do away with the kitchen costs by and large. I’m here on a Tuesday for burger Tuesday and thank goodness that’s still available, but I can’t give 5 stars after I asked my waitress if they downsized the menu and she said they cut it back a few weeks earlier with a look of disappointment... hopefully food will come back with a few more options than what feels like was utterly slashed and gutted at the current state. Nothing wrong with beer, service and atmosphere, but just disappointed to see this place after a few years of being open and successful (outward appearances) slash it’s menu to what a bar/pub in its infant stages would roll out from...
Read moreI was in Dallas for the Congress for the New Urbanism's annual conference. As part of festivities, we had a pub crawl in Deep Ellum. Cold Beer Company definitely stood out. I really like the layout of CBC. It has a classy vibe without feeling pretentious. The outdoor area is especially attractive; it wraps around the building, including a walk-up outdoor bar. There are plenty of tables on the outdoor patio; I am sure they are quite popular whenever the weather is nice. The indoor/outdoor space blurs because of the large doors (garage doors, I believe). I spent my time outside at a table near the walk-up bar in the back; it made for an enjoyable, although brief, evening. For food, I only had the chips and dip. The real star though is the beer selection. I was pleased with the variety, especially the number of Texan craft beers. If I ever get back to Dallas I guarantee I will find my way back to Cold Beer Company. This is one of the best bars I've been...
