Good Company at Culpepper Cattle & Co. 🤠🐂

Culpepper A Texas-themed restaurant that ticks all the boxes: steaks, burgers, and Tex-Mex, all served in a charming historical building. It’s the perfect spot for out-of-town visitors, a casual date, or even just unwinding after work at the bar. Summary: Skip the appetizers, but dive into the entrees and pair them with their fantastic cold drinks and cocktails. Food: • Pineapple Coconut Shrimp: Not my personal favorite, as it felt reminiscent of a chain restaurant appetizer. However, my wife loved it, especially with the pineapple sauce. • Meatballs: Decent, albeit a bit on the salty side. While they didn’t leave a lasting impression on me, the kids were satisfied and happily snacked on these while waiting for the main course. • Combo Fajitas: Exceptionally well-prepared. My only gripe is the lime rind juice, which sometimes overwhelms the flavor. Still, it’s a solid option for fajita lovers. • Hamburger: Surprisingly, this western-themed steakhouse serves up one of the best cheeseburgers I’ve had. It’s nothing fancy, but it’s bursting with flavor and lands solidly in my top 10. Atmosphere: The western décor, paired with neon lights and exposed brick, gives this place a cool, polished ’80s vibe. It feels vintage yet clean and inviting. Service: Service here is stellar. I’ve been three times, and each visit has been met with friendly, attentive staff. There’s a negative review floating around about a “blue-haired woman”—but if it’s the same person who served us (Daisy, I believe), I can’t say enough good things. She was fantastic. Definitely ask for her if she’s working! Pro Tips: • Happy hour runs from 4-6 pm, and beers are served extra cold! • Mondays: Cheeseburgers are just $10 all day. But don’t forget—they close the kitchen at 8:45 pm. • Fridays: Fajitas are also $10 during lunchtime. • Free private gated parking is a huge bonus. The best drink: the “Mexican from Austin” a tequila based martini. It tastes like a famous martini from an old restaurant named Trudy’s from Austin Texas. Try it and change your life. Flip Side Review: Unfortunately, the appetizers don’t shine here. While the outdoor bar is appealing, there’s a bit of an off-putting smell in the area, which makes dining inside the better option. Otherwise, the patio would be perfect for cooler Texas evenings or brunch. Another thing pointed out to me that might be unexpected for some is that they don’t bring out chips and salsa here as most Tex Mex spots do while looking over the menu, they bring out flour tortillas and butter. Not a big deal for me but may be worth noting for others. Overall: Culpepper is a fantastic spot to enjoy an ice-cold drink, great music, and a welcoming atmosphere. While some appetizers fall short, the entrées, drinks, and service make it well worth the visit.

This place is amazing and absolutely worth a visit! If you're not interested in detailed reviews, then skip the rest.

I visited Culpepper Cattle Company during DFW Restaurant Week. I opted for the Signature Experience which included four courses and a cocktail. I opted for the firecracker shrimp, chicken fried lobster, cowboy caesar salad, horchata cheesecake, and the smoky old fashioned cocktail. Before I review the food, I will say that the wait staff was great. Sara, one of the bartenders, took great care of me as I opted to sit in a table near the bar.

The smoky old fashioned was great! I liked that they smoked the drink tableside. It was very bourbon forward but had a great balance with the turbinado sugar.

The firecracker shrimp were incredible! I was pleasantly surprised that they were somewhat spicy! The shrimp were heavily sauced which acted as a dressing for the bed of slaw.

The waitress brought out some fresh tortillas. I'm guessing this would be the equivalent of chips and salsa at a Mexican restaurant. Either way, the tortillas were great!

The chicken fried lobster was served on a bed of garlic mashed potatoes. I selected the cowboy potatoes. This entree could easily feed two NFL linebackers. I did not expect this amount of food

The cowboy caesar was simple but nice. The freshly shaved parmesan on the top was exactly what I needed. I'm assuming the croutons are made in house as they were also extremely fresh.

I was stuffed, so I ate the horchata cheesecake a few hours after I got home. I am normally a fan of dense cheesecakes. Culpepper threw me for a loop with its mousse-like cheesecake. I want to say it's the best slice of cheesecake that I've ever had. I need to try it again before I make that determination (maybe the GM will slide me a...

Today is Sunday June, 1, 2025. I hardly ever leave a food review whether the food is good or subpar but I believe my experience today needs to be shared. I went to this restaurant for brunch and arrived about 2pm as I had seen a promotion on Facebook about their brunch. The restaurant wasn't busy all. I went through and fixed my plate. Virtually, ALL of the food was cold (grits, chicken fried steak, sirloin steak, rice, beans, hash brown casserole, etc.) And for the few items that were not cold, they were luke warm (bacon, sausage)..The only thing that was hot was the fried chicken tenders. I mentioned this to the waitress that was working the bar and she went and told her manager. She came back and told me the manager said they just put fresh food out but where I was sitting I was the facing the food and I didn't see them putting fresh out like that. The only thing that was put out was scrambled eggs which looked horrible therefore I did not eat them. I see the manager going to the food to stir everything up to make it look fresh. So I go up there again and get a second plate. The only difference was the rice and beans this time were hot. I could tell he tried to stir up the grits but they were still not hot. Nothing had changed drastically. The manager who was in a green stripped shirt came by and asked how was everything. I told him that the food was pretty much cold. He said they are trying something new and smiled and said they will get it right. I hope they get it right but I won't go back to find out if they got it right. Furthermore, the manager should have comp'd my meal today (customer service) because I basically ate cold food which he did not offer to do. Unbelievable experience today and I couldn't suggest this place to anybody. I left that...
