Travel has been limited for us lately, so finding new eats in our own backyard is our focus. Lately, we've been in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas, and today, we had brunch at Cretia's. This place has been around a while, and it's too bad we haven't checked in to it earlier. We've been missing out! Diane had the sweet onion quiche (today's) with fruit. One thing you notice right away is that every part of the quiche is handmade. The pastry was flaky and buttery, cooked to perfection. The quiche was soft but, once again, cooked just right. The use of cream is present but just adds to the flavor instead of overpowering the other ingredients. I really don't think it can be improved on. The side of fruit was large pieces of watermelon, strawberries, blueberries, honeydew, and cantaloupe. All very good. Diane doesn't usually like honeydew, but she actually enjoyed theirs. I had Cretia's salad. Chicken fried chicken, bacon, tomatoes, cheddar, croutons, deviled eggs, and a creamy maple balsamic dressing. The chicken was pounded thin, and the breading was just a dusting that was crunchy but delicate with just the right amount of seasoning. The chicken just melted in your mouth. The salad itself was crisp and fresh, and the maple balsamic dressing was really good. Not too sweet as some tend to be. Our server, Angie, was friendly, professional, and helpful with the menu. Cretia's is known for its bakery, so we had to take a few things home that we will review after coffee and dessert at home tonight. 😜 Overall, highly recommended two thumbs-up 👍👍

Update: Easter lunch with my mom and Diane's folks at Cretia's. Once again we had a great meal and enjoyed our stay. Our server was friendly, helpful and on the spot with service. The mom's both had the salad trio. Chicken salad, spinach salad and fruit. Dad chose the caramel and apple French toast. Was it good? Well, lets just say I thought he might lick the plate clean but etiquette won out. Diane had the days kiesh, spinach, and fruit. We've had the kiesh before and it was really good once again. I had the Davis street burger. The onion jam was a flavorful addition to the smoked bacon, egg and cheese. The fries were seasoned and cooked just right. Once again, everything was fresh and thoroughly enjoyed. We each ordered some dessert to take home. The desserts are just fantastic. The line goes out the door with those who just wanted sweets. The one thing I can't figure with this place it that the dining room is hardly ever busy. The desserts are good but so is the rest of the menu. We recommend you try everything!

Update 6.17.22 Back again with another group of friends. This time with the Niçoise steak salad. Nice fresh greens and toppings and the steak was absolutely awesome. Tender with a very good marinade.

Highly recommended 5...

After living in Uptown/Knox Henderson for over 20 years, we recently moved to Oak Cliff, right next to Bishop Arts and Kessler Park. To fully immerse ourselves in this awesome neighborhood, we made a casual pact to grab brunch at a different place in the area every weekend. One Sunday, we ended up at Cretia’s.

As soon as we walked in, the staff greeted us with a smile. The dining room is small and cozy, with a bar and a full counter bakery sandwiching the dining room. They told us we could sit anywhere we wanted, so we chose a two-top near the bar.

We arrived around 1 PM, and the dining room was pretty full, but there were still plenty of empty tables. It looked like they were busy before we got there, because many of the empty tables still had empty glasses and stacked dishes-most of them remained in this state throughout our visit.

The place could definitely use some regular cleaning and better service, but I still enjoyed the food. I had the vegetarian quiche of the day, and it was really good and an appropriate serving size. Our waitress was a friendly and knowledgeable young lady.

After we finished our meal, we ordered a cupcake and a pie from the bakery. I had the cupcake, and it wasn’t too dry or too sweet. I think we also had the lemon chess pie, which was really good too.

If I only rated restaurants based on taste and service, I’d give Cretia’s 3.5 stars. But since it just didn’t look like anyone cared to keep the place clean, I hope they’ll take our feedback and maybe start cleaning more regularly and making sure their staff is more polished in their service and presentation.

I don’t want to come across as pretentious, and I’ll definitely be back for that quiche and cupcake. However it just felt all to que será que será, Im not sure how they might respond to special dietary needs or a complete order error, but I just imagine they would kinda shrug and apologize. So it’s that sorta vibe.

I recommend checking out Cretia’s. It’s a quaint little place with tasty food. But don’t expect to be blown away. Just check it out on your own and see if it’s the kind of place you’d want to take guests who you want...

So soooo...disappointed😭😭😭 I called to see if they had any freshly made Strawberry cakes, for my son's birthday. The lady said, "They'd just made a couple that morning" I said, "great!". So I drove almost a little more than an hour to get there and purchased one,for $45.00. That evening, family and friends gathered to celebrate. As we began eating, everyone noticed the cake taste more of a store Box cake, than of Quality Bakery!! It was crumbly, airy and far on the dry side... Not super moist as what is expected, from bakery!🤔 I would have take the cake back to them, that evening... but they were closed. So I called the next day.. and the manager tells me,"Well, we've not had any other complaints...and asking did we have it cold or room temperature? Well, you'll have to bring it back, so we can see what's happened? And...of course I didn't have any problems, doing so! But she then said, "it has to be within 24hours and then we'll issue you, a "store credit". And... I would have to be there, by 6pm. Even though she said, "They're open until 11pm". Her knowing I'll have to drive an hour,again... to get there. I thought "Huuuh?...Drive an hour for store credit?"...After this incident and experience? Do you really think?... I'll return here and purchase anything, else? Nooo way. No thanks😡. I had even went to another bakery close by, before coming to this place. And They... gave me a sample of their.... "Strawberry Cake"!! Omg.... It was soooo delicious and amazing! Super moist, with fresh strawberries, full of flavor!!! If they would've had a cake on hand??Believe me... I wouldn't be having this issue and my Son's cake birthday wouldn't have been, dissappointing. Sooo... here I am! With my 45.00 dollars blown out the, windows 🌬🌬🌬💸💸💸.

Oh yea... when I asked,"to sample the actual cake first?". The employee said, "They don't have samples, only the cupcakes... which I had to buy for 2$. So total of $47.00!". Even thought they have, slices of cakes,I could've had. So... my first experience? Will be my......

My sister recommended this bakery since she purchases cakes here a lot. I live out of state but was celebrating my 30th birthday with my family in Dallas. The original cake was most likely the “real” deal but the remake is a box cake. The cake is not worth the $137 I paid. The bakery offered to remake the cake because they stated that it was a hard cake to keep upright and it was damaged sometime between me picking it up from the bakery and placing it on the counter at my sister’s house. I was originally planning to keep the original cake as it was, but I didn’t get a picture with it before it was damaged. However, I did have the opportunity to taste the icing. The icing was so delicious so imagine my disappointment when I tasted the remake cake. I did make sure to take a picture with the remake cake at the bakery before leaving. The icing tastes stale and the cake taste like a box cake with added ingredients. My sister stated this cake is not Cretia’s best. At this point, I wish I would have kept the original cake because it would have been much more enjoyable to eat just based on how the icing tasted. I would have appreciated it more had Cretia’s allowed me to keep the original cake instead of offering to remake it if they couldn’t make it taste as good or better than the original.
