I felt that there should have been a bigger and more unique selection of bagels that is displayed in a more inviting configuration. They just seemed like they were "off to the side" but not the focal point of the restaurant. There was no mention of cream cheese by the cashier, nor were there some out in view so that the customer can see that there was a variety avaliable for purchase. I would have paid for some if it was an option, or accepted what it came with. To my surprise, there was no cream cheese.
The main reason why I give this 2 stars is because of their description of some of their menu items. First, what's mentioned online is different that what's mentioned on their printed menu. There's a difference between "Lox" and "Smoked Salmon". I'm from one of the northern states, so it's understood to me that if you order a Lox bagel, the salmon would be basically raw. I ordered what I thought was Smoked Salmon with a bagels, but what I got instead was a Lox Bagel that had raw salmon, fresh onions, cucumbers, cream cheese, and those little green things (I can't remember the name!!) On the online menu online they have a Lox and Onion Omlette', so I took that as they understood the difference and that they were two different things. I believe they know the difference, it just doesn't appear to be advertised or understood the best.
I purchased it for someone, and when she saw it, she almost cried because she didn't expect it to be raw. It didn't appear to me that they just flat out gave us the wrong order. We should have checked our food before we left, so this isn't entirely on them, to be fair.
The owner or manager was friendly. He made sure what I ordered was correct in the system. The cashier seemed friendly, just new, but that is to be expected since they just opened. The rest of the food ordered including the bagel I picked out was good. If they were to improve on the things that in my opinion (they certainly don't have to because I'm in no way an actual food critic), I would come...
Read moreThis place has received lots of good reviews and usually the parking lot is full, so I decided to try it. This is the 4th restaurant in this location in about 7 years, so I'm rooting for it to succeed. A bagel place in a biscuit state definitely makes it stand out. That alone makes the menu differential. Bagels, lox (smoked salmon), cream cheese, and challah bread are the base for the menu. I begin with the bagels because - well, their name IS Dallas Bagels. The bagels were tasty (we tried Sesame, whole wheat, and everything) but chewy and not quite toasted enough. The schmear was very minimal, and presented in tiny plastic cups. By the time the bagels reached the table, they were barely warm. So...OK, but nothing that makes me want to return. My friend ordered the nova omelet, but they served him a bagel sandwich. Another friend ordered her eggs over easy, and they were presented very much over medium (that's them in the photo). I personally was not enthralled with the challah bread French toast, but my friend liked it. It was, indeed, fluffy (but once again, served more cool than hot). All in all, its menu is unique for the area, the food is acceptable if nothing to write home about, so it's a welcome change in this home of franchises and biscuit restaurants.
Now to the service. Wow. It was slow. The only person who was really working was the server, who had an arm injury. She was overwhelmed, but no one helped except one girl who cleaned dirty tables. Everyone else we could see was talking to each other or looking at phones. After about 20 minutes, a man who appeared to be the manager showed up and, as soon as they saw him, they hopped to (the female cashier was especially obvious). If this were my restaurant, I would put cameras or secret shoppers out when I wasn't present because they need training and a little fear for their jobs. No wonder or food was not served hot. ...
Read moreFirst time checking this place out. It was packed to the door this Sunday morning. We waited patiently for a table to be cleared so we could dine in.
Admittedly, I wasn't super impressed with the food. The service was phenomenal, however. Our server was very kind, as were the other employees.
I had the Monte Cristo sandwich. I wanted to love it, but the French toast was a wee bit under cooked, so the bread got really soggy once the eggs and pastrami were added. The pastrami had a bit of a twang to it, which made me think it might not have been the freshest? I wasn't sure, so I took it off. It was served with a side of fruit, consisting of cantaloupe, honeydew, a grape, and a few pieces of pineapple.
Hubby had the Hungry Man breakfast. He asked for turkey bacon, but they brought it out with pork bacon - which we don't eat. The server was apologetic and promised to rectify the situation. He returned shortly with a separate side plate of turkey bacon. Personally, I had hoped they would replace the entire dish since the bacon had been spread on top of everything else on his plate, but they didn't. Hubby didn't want to make a fuss, so we let it go. I'm just sharing in case anyone else is sensitive to pork in their diet. In any case, the grits were creamy, and the eggs were scrambled well. He also had an Asiago cheese bagel with veggie schmear, which he enjoyed.
My little guy had the kids' meal with grits, eggs, and turkey bacon. He also had a cinnamon raisin bagel with butter. He enjoyed his food as well. Be advised that a beverage is not included with the kids' meal and will be an additional but nominal charge.
Our server checked in on us frequently, offering to clear plates and bring to go boxes as needed.
I never make a final call on a first visit, so I'll be back again to give this place...
