Hola Cafe is in the heart of South Oak Cliff Dallas and has such a welcoming name, but unfortunately, a very unwelcoming staff.
As a prior patron from the small quaint welcoming shop they had across the street prior to the expansion, I was expecting the same heart and local-loving friendly vibe at the new location but to my dismay, this place is the opposite.
The furnishing around the shop screams, "Look, don't touch!" As it feels like a place made to host small upscale private gatherings, and not welcome a standard person coming in for a cup of joe.
The drink options are unique in design and name, but the flavor and uniqueness didn't quite match what was being described or even match how things tasted prior to the shop shifting locations. If that wasn't enough, I felt the drink sizes to price ration despite the flavor shortcomings wasn't justified.
The snack/food options seemed fine. Nothing that stood out or felt unique for a place that I'd want that touch of hispanic culture for a place called "Hola Cafe."
I had met the owner at the previous location and he was very down to earth and stated he was a local, so to see the shop take such a drastic change of direction just didn't sit right with me.
Side note, make concha cupcakes. I'm sure they'll do great...
Read moreHola Café is one of the few coffee shops open early in Dallas. After an irritating search that populated nothing but Starbucks and a bunch that were opening soon, I decided to pop in to this one. The atmosphere when you walk in super cozy, with locals chatting, different styles of tables and chairs set up for a second office space or just to lounge and enjoy a good brew--which is what I'm enjoying right now! I tried the Dulce Latte iced with a Banana Cold Foam (i know, right?. It was the perfect balance of sweetness, without the diabetes you get from Dunkin Donuts, and espresso. (i was sooooo aiming for a warm coffee after my workout because i was cold, but the barista suggested that the banana cold foam tastes mid when it's warm, his service was awesome as well!) I also tried a sausage roll and cinnamon roll because I needed all the energy I could get today (can you say CARB LOADING?). It's definitely a place I would stop by and chill at with a book and a coffee on an off day...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreAbout the only friendly thing about the place is the sign, Hola Cafe. I am not a regular customer; you would think the baristas would know that and treat me kindly to win me over and keep me coming back. Nothing can be farther from the truth in my opinion. The cortado and avocado toast of which i had were good. The avocado toast was served up in a box. I went back to the counter and asked if they had a plate. Apparently they have a limited amount of dishware. You would think the barista whom i placed my order with would ask me if i was going to enjoy my cortado and toast there. Upon leaving instead of a goodbye have a nice day. I was asked to do my own bussing of the dish. I ask the barista what the tip was for. He said it's just a tip. Things just don't add up to a tip when you have to pick up what you ask for. When you have to go and ask for a plate. You have to do your own bussing. Not friendly. It's simply the principle of it all. ...
