I've eaten here many times for over a year, but recently, it has been a hit or miss. When the food is really fresh, it's perfect. However the past few times I've been here, the food was unbelievably greasy. The fries were dark and soggy, the bread was drenched in butter/oil. I usually have some leftover fries and part of a chicken sandwich I reheate at home in my airfryer (I didn't add extra oil or anything), and the oil from the fries and bread leaked through 5 layers of paper towels and still kept dripping after that. All the grease and fat also pooled at the bottom of my bowl in a thick layer. I've never had this issue reheating the greasiest of greasy foods elsewhere. I cannot imagine putting this much grease into my body! The food here wasn't always like this, but the past 2 or 3 times I've gone, it was so oily and gave me a headache and indigestion. I saw in another review that they deep-fry their food AGAIN to heat it up and I'm not sure how true that is, but it sounds believable with how soggy and oily my food has been recently. I'm no health nut by any means, but the amount of oil the food had could give someone issues, probably lol.
I also paid for 4 extra sauces last time I went since I wanted to try some, which were $2 each, mind you, so $8 total for 4 extra sauces. They were not even filled up all the way!!! The small plastic container of sauces were filled up half way or even less than that, and sold at its full price. I'm disappointed -- If I'm paying for extra sauce, especially $2 each, I expect it to be full.
Lastly, for some reason every time I order something here, something is always missing from my sandwich. I usually order the Chicken and Bacon Club Sandwich, and sometimes it's missing the bacon... sometimes it's missing the onion... sometimes it's missing the tomato... and last time I went, it was missing all the arugula! The staff were really nice though, when I asked them about it last time when dining in, they brought me a container with what I was missing... However I question why parts of my sandwich is missing almost every single time I go here. I get that sometimes things get busy so mistakes happen, but when I pick up my food (drive 30 mins to go here) and come home to see things are missing, it's a bummer!
Also, do not expect your food to taste the same every time. I'm not sure if they change their recipe every time, but the same sandwich tastes very different every time I go there. This isn't a problem for me as it still tasted bomb, but don't expect consistency or the same taste if you prefer that. I don't know what's up with that, but I just tell myself maybe they're experimenting with their flavors or there's inconsistency because it's possibly made in-house from scratch.
tl;dr:
I love Vegan Food House. This place was my go-to for over a year, and the staff are really nice in my experience. However the past few times I came here, the food was unbearably oily, pieces of my order was missing (which sucks when you're paying nearly $20 for a sandwich!), and the sauce situation... well I was not happy paying $2 for sauces that weren't even fully filled in a small plastic container. I really love y'all but please do something about this! I don't go here anymore but I hope...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant for a late lunch as we were exploring Dallas town center. We were a group of five—two strict vegans and three non-vegans. The reason for choosing this spot was that we specifically searched for vegan restaurants in Dallas, and this one came up. While the food was impressive, the overall experience left a lot to be desired.
The ambiance was quite pleasant, with a cozy hut vibe that gave it a nice, local neighborhood feel. Parking was a big plus—street parking was available and free, which made our visit very convenient. However, as we entered the restaurant, we were surprised by the lack of a greeting or any staff interaction. No one welcomed us, explained how the restaurant operated, or guided us through the ordering process. This felt quite impersonal and was a missed opportunity to make a good first impression.
The ordering system relies on scanning a QR code on the table, which pulls up an interactive menu. Each guest places their order individually and pays via Apple Pay or credit card. While this sounds modern and efficient, the process was anything but. After completing payment, you have to go through a second validation step, which is confusing and caused delays in getting our food. This system could definitely be streamlined to improve the overall experience.
The food was the highlight of the visit. We ordered a variety of dishes, and everything tasted fresh and thoughtfully prepared. The sandwiches were well-made, with fresh bread and quality ingredients, and the chips were perfectly cooked. The creativity in the vegan menu was impressive, and the dishes seemed to have been cooked to order. That said, the restaurant leans heavily on fried options, which is not everyone’s preference, and the frying smell was noticeable the moment we walked in. For those who enjoy fried food, this may not be an issue, but it wasn’t ideal for us.
Unfortunately, the service was a major letdown. We seated ourselves, got our own water from a fountain nearby (served in plastic cups, which felt at odds with the vegan/sustainable ethos), and had to ask twice for our drinks, as they were not brought out with the food. The staff interaction was minimal and lacked the attentiveness you’d expect in a dine-in establishment. Adding to this, a 10% tip was automatically included in the bill, which you had to manually remove if you didn’t want to pay it. Given the lack of service beyond delivering the food to the table, this automatic tipping felt unwarranted.
While the food was undoubtedly good and would appeal to vegans looking for creative options in Dallas, the lackluster service, confusing ordering process, and minor details like the plastic cups and fried smell detracted from the experience. The restaurant wasn’t even busy during our visit, which made the service issues even more puzzling.
Personally, I wouldn’t return, but for vegans in South Dallas, this place does offer a great food scene alternative. With some improvements in customer service and streamlining their processes, this restaurant has the potential to be a much better...
Read moreI ordered a meal for delivery yesterday under my first name, Richard (order # 1875001246). The first issue was the food (tacos) were delivered cold, with no napkins, and the fries were also cold and had no ketchup. The delivery was made quite late, which is probably much of the reason the food was cold. After ordering, VFH provided me with a delivery window ending at 4:45 pm, whereas the order was actually delivered at 5:06 pm.
In addition to the issue of food quality, this delay also caused me to miss over 20 minutes of work time as I attempted to help the driver understand my very simple directions. Meeting in a parking lot immediately off the street where my office is located was somehow confusing to him, despite it being the simplest possible way to deliver a meal that I could think of, and my listing it in three different places for him. A hot bag in the vehicle would have at least kept the food warm until reaching me, but no, this was not present either.
I was contacted by the restaurant after my order asking for feedback in review form, but chose to first call in and speak to a manager rather than leaving these negative remarks publicly. My first call was not answered, and their system would not allow a message to be left. I tried again later and spoke to a woman who represented herself as the manager. She stated that the delivery being late had nothing to do with the restaurant, and blamed the delivery service. As her customer, I of course have no idea what service she's talking about, since I placed my order directly through the VFH website. Regardless of who that may be, our expectation is the same as far as timeliness, and it's the restaurant's responsibility to ensure that is met.
The woman on the phone was not apologetic in any way about this, nor when I mentioned that the order was cold, included no napkins or ketchup, and so forth. She simply said, "They were probably busy yesterday" and then hung up on me before our call was finished. I called right back and was informed by another employee who answered that the woman I'd first spoken to was not, in fact, a manager. I was then informed that despite having spoken to two employees now and leaving my name, number, and status as a customer wishing to speak to a manager, I should not expect a call back from one. Why? I've never heard of any business behaving this way toward its customers. She then hung up on me in the middle of a sentence, as well. I was courteous throughout each of these calls despite what I consider disrespectful treatment from start to finish on this order.
This restaurant has some nice options for vegan meals, but when you seemingly go out of your way to treat folks poorly, you can't expect them to ever spend their money there again or recommend you. Therefore, I must suggest that people avoid Vegan Food...
