I was excited to try this place after seeing it packed for about a month. My husband and I dined in today for a late lunch and we were unfortunately underwhelmed.
It looks nice on the inside, but the tables are very close to one another and hard to navigate. The chairs also seemed an inch or two short compared to regular dining chairs which felt weird.
I would recommend to the owner to put in a small wall or divider of some sort directly in front of the entry door on the inside. If you're sitting at one of the tables along the wall near the door, every time the door opens, cold air blasts you and your food.
I know the Romano's know about this kind of stuff. So why?
The food was okay, but not great. Especially considering that entrees are around $20 (or more, depending on your selection). I had the orange chicken, which was good in that it was all white meat chicken, and the sauce was not too sweet. It was a medium thickness sauce - not light and thin (which I prefer), but not super thick and syrupy. It's what you'd expect from an American Chinese restaurant.
We also had the vegetable spring rolls, which again were just okay. The filing was mushy somehow. It said it was cabbage, carrot and onion, but it had a potato type texture, which was odd. It came with a duck sauce that looked homemade, but did not taste like anything special.
The service was good. They were busy, but still relatively attentive.
The ladies restroom was horrible though. It was dirty and very dark. The design from a logistical standpoint was bizarre. The paper towel dispenser was installed maybe 2 inches above a shelf, so the paper piles up on the shelf, which is wet from dripping hands. If one was in a wheel chair, you would not be able to reach the dispenser. The soap dispenser was broken. The sink is really shallow, as if designed for a narrow space. If you were in a wheel chair, it might be challenging to use the sink without bumping into the wall. There was plenty of room for a deeper sink and a counter, but there was none. If you were to take children into the restroom there would be no room for the things you might need. The toilet was not automatic. For some reason, the step trash can was also right against the toilet, and again, filthy and overflowing into the floor.
I was expecting a slightly more upscale experience, but not fine dining. This seemed very similar to Panda Express but "skinned" in a slightly fancier space.
All of that considered, I MIGHT order to-go from MiYa's in the future but I doubt it. I'll drive a little further and go to Asian Mint...
Read moreI had been getting take out from here since they’ve opened up but it wasn’t until last Friday that I took a friend for us to have a catch up. Well I know the food is good since I’ve had it countless times already but to be honest I don’t know if I’ll be back after my in person dining experience. We ordered 2 plates or noodles and 1 order of soup dumplings. We sat there for 1 hr and never got offered anything to drink other than the water we were served. We did receive an order of dumplings but not the ones we ordered…then we received one plate of noodles. At this moment we were very hungry since we had not eaten anything at all and very frustrated because none of our order was correct. I had to pull a random waiter to ask to check our order because our waitress was MIA. It wasn’t until then that I told that waiter to cancel the whole thing and we were leaving he asked if I wanted to speak to the manager I said yes and the manager never came by to even apologize. It was ridiculous and even embarrassing. The waitress finally came back around and asked if we were doing ok I let her know she did not get any of our order correct and we were leaving and she didn’t apologize at all. So we left to our usual spot Fortune House on Greenville-definitely will just go to Fortune House anytime I want Chinese food & dumplings. Miya I was definitely rooting for you but this was a huge disappointment.
Update 3/08 @ 5:35pm I decided that this restaurant was a take out only for me since the food is still good. Went by just now to pick up My order and the girl twirling with her hair ignored me in line but yet when the next customers walked in AFTER ME she IMMEDIATELY jumped to help them instead of the person next in line. (Me) making me think again of ever doing...
Read moreFinal update after ordering take out and dining in more than a handful of times. Bottom line, this is not a place that will be put into my regular rotation. If I crave chinese bad enough and don't want to go far. I'll come here. The food isn't the worst. The dim sum is decent. I came here because I was on a journey to find better bao and soup dumplings. Then I wanted to give it a fair review. To list off some things
-Soup dumplings just had a burst of disappoint rather than a burst of flavor. -Bao is good but the size has gotten smaller since I first tried it. Price $13 for four. -beef and broccoli was salty almost too salty. -orange chicken and sweet & sour entrees were a bit too sweet. -Buddhas delight was the smallest serving compared to the rest of the menu. -Hand pulled noodles are good. Chicken lo mein would reccomend. -Wonton soup was lacking in flavor and $12
The people coming because of tik tok and giving great reviews, please try some more chinese places. One of my family members told me they saw it on tik tok and asked if it was worth it. I did not reccomend because honestly the prices are up there and overall not worth it.
If you want a good place to get some strong tasty drinks at a cheaper price, Rodeo goat. I may be bias. Tried one drink and it was nothing compared to one drink at Rodeo. Js.
If you would like to try some great bao XIAO LING's KITCHEN. The bao is so big it takes up your hand. Granted my hand is on the smaller size. They are also $13. The wonton soup is bigger and tastier at $8. It is a drive depending on where you live....
