I have never in my life had worse table service than I did in this restaurant, and I have eaten at Dennys. I will spare you the entire saga, but our waiter was not just inattentive; we sat for 20 minutes waiting for him to take our order after he told us he would be right back to take our order. This is a tiny place, but he somehow disappeared. Evidently he forgot to put in our drink order. Then after he actually took our food order, we waited for it for AN HOUR before finally complaining. When we did ask where our food was, we were told it was being plated. Fifteen minutes later, the food finally arrived, followed by "Chef Someone" who told us the reason the order was delayed was because he had burned the first waffle. ?? Look, everyone makes mistakes. But in most restaurants, someone (um, the waiter, maybe?) would have come to our table to explain the situation. We would have been offered a free appetizer while we waited, or at least an apology. Maybe a free refill on our coffees? SOMETHING. We received nothing. No apology. No discount. No coupon. Nothing. AND the service was terrible. We might as well have been invisible. Then, thirty minutes before close, one of the waiters started sweeping the floor all around us while we were eating. Some of the mess went flying under our table, and he left the pile for us to walk through on our way out. We are kind people. Both my daughter (who was with me, asking with her children) and I were waitstaff. We know. It is a hard, often thankless job. You never sit down. You have to remember 40 things at one time. Sometimes you get stiffed. We are polite and friendly and are good tippers. I have no idea what caused us to receive the treatment we did today. My daughter was very excited about bringing me here because she is gluten intolerant, as is one of her children, and I have celiac disease. It is a rare and delightful thing to walk into a restaurant and not have to worry about what you eat. And, as I said, the food is good. Very good. But y'all got to get the rest of the stuff together. All the good food in the world won't make what happened...
Read moreAmbience and Service: Upon entering Origin Kitchen & Bar, the welcoming atmosphere and the restaurant’s dedication to being celiac-friendly were immediately evident. The staff was generally friendly and attentive, creating a comfortable environment for a family brunch.
Food Quality: The menu offered an appealing selection of brunch items, including gluten-free options. I opted for the gluten-free French toast, which, when initially served, looked delectable but raised suspicions due to the thickness of the bread. This prompted a double-check with the staff.
Addressing Dietary Needs: As someone with celiac disease, it’s crucial that restaurants understand and cater to gluten-free requirements. Initially, there was a concerning lapse when I was mistakenly served regular French toast instead of the gluten-free version. Fortunately, the error was quickly rectified upon speaking with the manager, and I was served the correct dish without further issues.
Management Response: The manager’s response to the mix-up was commendable. He was apologetic, understanding, and took immediate action to rectify the mistake. His decision to comp the meal was a generous gesture that was appreciated.
Overall Experience: My experience at Origin Kitchen & Bar was a mix of highs and lows. The atmosphere and food quality were excellent, but the initial oversight regarding my gluten-free needs was a significant concern. The prompt and empathetic response from the management, however, did help in alleviating the situation.
Recommendation for Fellow Diners: For others with celiac disease or gluten sensitivities, I recommend being extra vigilant and confirming with the wait staff about the gluten-free status of your meal. This experience underscores the importance of double-checking, even in establishments that advertise as...

I had the pleasure of dining at Origin Kitchen and Bar on the recommendation of my dear friend, Richard Roper, and I can say without hesitation—it was one of the best meals I’ve had in Dallas.
From the moment we walked in, the service was impeccable. Armando, our server, went above and beyond—including having a special honey mustard made just for our table. That kind of attention to detail is rare and speaks volumes about the culture of hospitality here.
What truly set the experience apart, though, was the personal attention from Chef Scott. Not only did he take the time to visit with us at our table, but he also came back to check on us multiple times throughout the meal. He shared his philosophy about expanding the boundaries of what healthy scratch food can be, and after tasting the dishes—it’s clear he's doing exactly that.
The organic ingredients and overall quality of the food were outstanding. Every bite tasted fresh, clean, and carefully crafted. I requested several custom changes to my salad, and not only were they accepted without hesitation—I was even offered more customization options than I had imagined. That’s rare and speaks to a level of hospitality and culinary confidence that is truly special.
It’s hard to find a place where the food feels authentic, deeply nourishing, and leaves you feeling like you just enjoyed a meal at home with a private chef—but that’s exactly the magic of Origin Kitchen and Bar.
I can’t wait to return and try their breakfast next. If you’re in Dallas and value great food, warm service, and thoughtful innovation in the kitchen, this is...
