This has been an incredible experience! This is not a formal venue -- it is calm, relaxed, and casual. That said, the food is definitely a class act.
The service is incredible, and that pertains not only to our waitress, but to all of the staff. Even while I was in line for the restroom, a staff member offered a blessing when I sneezed. Despite the calm and seemingly colloquial name, this restaurant has many offerings of food and drink that are far from American, and explanations are readily offered when they are needed and requested. Dinner with instructions; yes, please!
We started off with oysters on the half shell, and they are extremely clean and have a very natural yet neutral flavor.
Our main drink of the night was something Paloma, and it was very good -- though I couldn't do it the entire night as it seemed anticipatory rather than something meant to be a primary flavor.
The bacon-wrapped shrimp-stuffed jalapeños were really good and not spicy at all. The crab-[and-shrimp]-stuffed jalapeños were amazing and really spicy.
The Shrimp Cocktail is definitely a Mexican thing and I guarantee you it is unlike anything you've had before. HAVE IT EXPLAINED before ordering. Also, get a small. I liked it overall, but it had too much raw onion for me to drink the broth, and I didn't like the oysters in it. The oysters on the half-shell were very clean and not slimy at all, but the oysters in the shrimp cocktail felt extremely slimy.
La Sirena was my favorite cocktail there. Stop asking questions and just order it.
There is some kind of flight shot (on a shot paddle) with tequila, lime, red juice thing, and shrimp-and-cucumber. Get that, too.
The cocktail Coco Mama was tasty, but was so sweet that it sat very heavy in the stomach and filled me up tremendously (for a short while).
We had a layered tequila-cream-and-coffee shot that was probably the single tastiest part of the night! This must be your dessert!
We could not escape without experiencing the delicacies, so we ordered some Premium Ceviche and Octopus Ceviche. I fid not care for the Premium Ceviche -- I have had ceviche many times over the years and have never really cared for it, but I will say that this was definitely the most harmonious ceviche that I have ever had. The Octopus Ceviche was really good and not even remotely fishy, oniony, or limey.
We had another dish that came out with the ceviche, and it was called agua-something. Aguachiles, I think. It was incredible!!!! Like a shrimp ceviche in creamy lime sauce, but seemingly fully [normally]-cooked. I loved it!!
We also had flan in there at some point, and it was line with what you can expect from good flan.
Basically, this is an informal-appearing, casual-feeling place with top-notch service, cocktails, and dishes.
You can bet your buttons I'll be...
Read moreWe asked for a virgin drink that was for our child, luckily we ALWAYS try his drinks no matter what and this drink has alcohol in it. When I requested to talk to the manager, the man in th host stand said he was in charge. When I told him we asked for a virgin drink and got alcoholic drink instead he didn't even apologized just said he would send a virgin drink out. After I demanded he figured out what happened as I did not trust they would not screw it over again, he said he would later send our manager to our table. I got more upset as he had lied saying he was in charge, I waited there at the host stand and she took forever coming out. When she finally came she asked "what had happened?" So I asked her if they had not informed her she said no. When I told her what happened she too brushed it off like nothing happened, after I asked her to research what went wrong to get this resolved and avoid issues in a sacastic tone she just said "do you expect me to fire the ladies in front of you? I already got mad at them told them to be careful"(which was weird because she supposedly told em she was not aware of what was happening when she first approached me) And just laughed. I asked her not to use a sarcastic tone as this was something very serious and she replied "it is not serious". So i told her you have no idea what people are going through we are here to have a nice time and relax not receive an alcoholic beverage for our child. Her response was "it is not our problem what you have going on, I already told you I am going to send another drink and that's that I don't need to research anything". I was shocked at her response so i asked for corporate information she straight replied with "i am not giving you that information because i dont want to and i am leaving" and she just walked off. When i returned to my table my husband decided for us to leave and we paid our bill for what we had and left. A lot of things in this situation are horrible, first of all neither my husband or I drink alcohol at all. To have gotten a drink that was not supposed to have alcohol for our son and the manager to just not even care is more than unfortunate as they literally served alcohol to a 7...
Read moreTried this place out for the last time! We ordered chips and salsa for a appetizer and the salsa was warm and pretty good. Not sure if it was the hair we found in the salsa that gave it a extra kick! As I took a chip and dipped it in the salsa up came a hair hanging from the chip along with salsa. I notified the waitress and she asked for assurance if the hair actually came from the bowl of salsa so my husband and I reassured her that it most definitely came from the bowl of salsa she served us. She took the salsa and brought us a new batch. Then my husband ordered the chicken, steak and shrimp platter and it smelled pretty good when we received it. Unfortunately it didn't taste as good as it looked. The shrimp had a burned taste and the steak tasted like oil and fat. The steak was also dry and over cooked. I ordered the grilled tilapia which I didn't get a picture of but it was tilapia without any seasoning and it just looked very untasteful so I asked if I could replace the dish with something else because none of the other ways they made the tilapia interested me and the waitress said she would have to charge me for that dish since it was already served so I told her I'd just keep it and to just make it as the tilapia al Diablo and the sauce was not good. It was a bit spicy and sweet it just had a really weird taste to it anyway The tilapia al Diablo which is just a spicy sauce over unseasoned and unflavored tilapia wasn't a good choice either. The customer service sucked. We spoke to the manager on duty and she was no help. Another thing we sat outside and when entering to use the bathroom all the waitresses were hanging out in front of the only door to enter and seen me approaching and went back to gossiping and didn't move from in front of the door it was just a weird experience and weird atmosphere not to mention very unprofessional except for the host he was very cheerful and had good energy when we arrived and left. Save your money and spend it at a better seafood place because this place is a...
