Bad experience with poor food and zero service. I have loved this place and have been coming jere for 3 years. I used to recommend it to friends. It seems to go through new owners quickly. This time they say they expanded the kitchen, it looks a mess and not really expanded probably just trying to keep all the flies outside that have plagues that side and diners for a while.
I ordered the usual 3 meat combo Ribs, Pulled pork, Brisket, & Fries with an unsweet tea. I had a taste of all before the Chef came by and gave me a thumbs up.
I said look I have to he honest the ribs usually are juicy and fall off the bone and melt in my mouth, using my fork to show him the burnt hard end of two ribs and a big bone that was hard and crusty, The pulled pork had no flavor except water so I asked if it was old from the line or reheated? to which he shook his head no, The brisket was a nice slab except it was 70% fat somome needs to watch a few tick tok or you tube shows on how to trim a brisket for the smoker, it was terribly and the good old Joes smoke flavor that could lure you to turn in from Federal Highway was weak at best. The fries were the same as always.
Now, I worked in the kitchens for year in my college days, you’r only as good as the last meal served, so I feel like feedback good or bad is helpful. You would think he would have owned it or at least offered to go get a new set up that was his best work to be proud of, But, he just walked on by wispered something in the young waitress ear and slunk back into the new expanded kitchen.
The owner may have been the bartender an older genteman that was oblivious to the operation like a family walking up to the old doors amd turning around and leaving. The new bar now dominates the room and had two ladies drinking there while on facetime with somome that seemed to hold his attention. The video juke box played a mix of pop amd country music randomly. Other diners walked in sat and had the most impressive thing I saw all night an Ice Cold beer mug! Sad to see a good place gone bad. With Shenanigans having all the same items always on point and a fun bar sceen, as well as well establisjed Tarks and a ton of other reataurant & faster food options within the neighborhood they really need to focus on...
Read moreLocation from the outside looks great. Very appealing. Inside is weird. Looks like they are in the middle of construction and still decided to open. Or they may be expanding.
Walked in and sat down. No menus. Girl said we had to look at the wall as we came in . But guy at counter said to just sit down.
So I'm guessing we had to order at counter and then sit down. But there was no no way we would have known that.
So when I asked the lady who was taking our order what they had. We were met with a blank look.
We ended up ordering rack of ribs ( and price was based on how many bones) because waitress said that's how they priced it when i asked how much.
Side of Mac and cheese (because I guess the sides are order separately? )
Even tho I asked for it as a platter.
We also ordered brisket and fries.
Sides came out 1st We were not impressed Mac was cooked pasta then almost like mozzarella and maybe sprinkled with cheddar. So bland. My kids didn't even eat it.
Fries were fries.
Brisket was cooked perfectly but had no taste.
Ribs were tasty and fell off the bones . A bit dry but maybe, it was a dry rub. But we just added some of the house bbq sauce they had on the table.
If it wasn't for the meats this place would have sucked.
Maybe this place is going through different ownerships As the BBQ meats is what was the original place And new owners are now adding items to menu that just don't go.
Couldn't quite tell what the restaurant was going for.
Outside said BBQ inside said they had no idea.
Not kitchen staff. But the wait staff and counter staff just gave off vibes they've never worked at a restaurant. ( this was also from observation of them Interacting with patrons ,while we ate our own food)
Bathrooms and other parts of location looked all mismatched and no professional.
Probably will...
Read morePleasantly surprised. I drive past this place all the time and decided to drop in because I was craving comfort food. There is plenty of outdoor seating and the inside is like a sports bar with a lodge feel. There were a few couples already seated and the atmosphere was warm and inviting.
While I originally stopped in for smoked meats, I opted for the grilled salmon. I had a flight the next day and I figured it would be lighter on the stomach to where I could finish it and not have an abundance of leftovers. I ordered Mac n cheese and greens for the side. The owner (woman owned) did let me know that it would take a bit for the salmon since it’s made to order so I sat at the bar and ordered a tequila lemonade.
The cocktail was a little too sugary (due to the brand of lemonade - the ‘juice’ kind, less of fresh lemonade) but it was on the house so I was grateful. I received my to go order about 20 min later with an additional side of black beans and rice as well as corn bread. Again I’m grateful because the owner was being generous knowing it was my first time.
I wish the salmon would’ve been smoked instead of grilled. It was ok but something I could’ve made at home, the caveat being that I left with 2 decent portions instead of one. All of the sides were so delicious! It really surprised me. The black beans were tasty and the greens had the perfect texture, the Mac was creamy and flavorful, the cornbread was sweet and moist. I was able to finish the leftovers the next day before my flight so nothing was wasted.
I will definitely return to try their smoked meats but overall this is a great place for good food and...
