Went in for the 14oz "prime" rib special on Wednesday. Sat at the bar and was greeted by the bartender. He gave me a menu and asked for my drink order. All was good at this point. The food order didn't take long to arrive. The prime rib special comes with a shrimp skewer, mixed vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. It's served on a thick wood cutting board (a wood cutting board is hardly sanitary after multiple uses) I'd suggest changing that gimmick way of serving food not only because of sanitary concerns, but the food requires careful eating so it doesn't fall off the edges of the board. I opened the napkin with the silverware and the knife had food on it still. Gross, but they replaced it with a proper steak knife. I started with the mixed vegetables and they were perfectly cooked. Still had a good vegetable crunch to them. Moved on to the shrimp, removed them from the skewer and took a bite. They were pretty good, but needed some more seasoning. The garlic mashed potatoes were good, but lacked garlic flavor. Now on to the "prime" rib. This was hardly prime. At best it was cut from a poor select grade rib roast. The meat was super tough (fortunately I was given the large steak knife because the previous food tainted knife would not have done the job). There was no seasoning on the meat. There was no crust on the outside edges that you expect from a rib roast. There was a thick strip of silver skin between the steak and end cap. The end fat cap is typically the best part of the rib roast. This was not the case with this portion of rib roast. Very disappointed with the rib roast. It was..... not prime beef, not seasoned properly, not roasted properly....just a cut of select grade rib roast. When it came to getting the bill there were two guys that were distracted by some sort of inventory list, an employee who they were going to cut their shift for the evening and an employee who came from the kitchen that need help on the POS register. After I received the bill everyone disappeared to the kitchen so I waited. With tip and an iced tea it came to around $40. Overall Black Jack's is not a restaurant that I found impressive in any way. Y'all missed...
Read moreGreat local place… to never again.
As a local business, we’ve been coming here since they opened. Sadly, the restaurant has gone downhill in both food quality and service.
We sat down (only two other customers at the bar), ordered a water and a beer, then placed our food order: banana fritters (asked for those first), French toast, and the hangover burger. Four other parties came in after us, and every single one of them was served their food while we continued waiting.
When the fritters finally came, they were burnt and dripping in oil. By the 42-minute mark we still hadn’t gotten the rest of our order. Astonished our food hadn’t come out yet, we asked for the check and then waited another 10 minutes before someone finally brought the food we already told them we no longer wanted. As if that was going to change our minds. At that point, we repeated that we did not want it and we just wanted the check.
The gentleman who brought the food raised his voice in an attempt to cause a scene, trying to make the us look bad. He kept insisting, “This is the food you ordered, we can box it up for you.” No why would we take food that we waited endlessly for while others came in after us and were served before us? Then he made it worse by saying this was food "he now had to pay for" as if the delay and mistake were our responsibility. Trying to guilt customers into taking food after poor service is not only unprofessional, it’s insulting. After the gentleman walked away, the owner came to the table with the same very condescending attitude.
She didn’t come to apologize or make it right. Instead, she explained “kitchen logistics.” Ma’am, the place is slow, there is absolutely no reason for our food to take this long.
The owners words out of her mouth.. “Well, there is the door.”
Thanks for showing us the door — we won’t be back. We supported this establishment day one, but...
Read moreHonestly, I had really high hopes for this new restaurant in Davie. As soon as we got there, there was no one to seat us, which was not a big issue, we waited until they came. Once we were sat, our waiter didn’t come for a while because there were only two waiters in the entire place. We had a couple questions regarding the menu and our waiter couldn’t exactly answer them and give us the right answer. I understand not knowing everything on the menu as a waiter, but leading us in the wrong direction for an entrée that was $20 is not OK. So when we received our food, it wasn’t what we thought because our waiter told us it was going to be something else. Our friend got the mojo pork, before ordering it she confirmed with the waiter that it came in a bowl type of thing like chipotle. Once the meal came out, she got a speck of rice and five thin slices of avocado note this was $20. To keep it going the pork were huge chunks when the waiter said it was pulled pork and half of the pork chunks were fat. We then ordered the Tostones because we thought they were similar to nachos and we did not choose to add the pork on because one of us cannot consume pork, and the nachos came out with the three dollar charge of pork. In the end, we did not get charged for the pork but the manager came over and said well you guys did eat it so and was extremely rude about it. She did end up taking $15 off of our bill but for a new restaurant on their opening weekend party, we had high hopes of good service and food so that the people in the community would want to come back. We will definitely not...
