If you are African American, think twice about dining here. The customer service at this establishment was horrible! If you don’t frequent this place, DO NOT dine there. They were not hospitable at all. When we walked in, the hostess did not greet us, but instead was counting money with her head down. Not once did she look up to acknowledge us. A different host walked up to the front to ask if we had been helped yet, and when we said no, she sternly said, “How can I help you?”, as if we weren’t coming there to dine. We surely did not feel welcomed. It was as if they did not want to serve us. After advising her that we desired a table for two, they took my name and telephone number and said they would text when the table was ready. They never texted and we saw at least four or five other parties, who by the way were of the same culture as the majority of the people who patronized this place, walk up to the hostess desk and were pleasantly greeted and seated fairly quickly. All the while we were still sitting in the lobby waiting to be seated for almost an hour. After my date went up to the hostess to inquire that several people that came after us had been seated quickly, the hostess made a demeaning remark to us asking if we were, “hangry”? I looked at her in confusion and she explained that “hangry” is when you’re really hungry and want to fight. This was very condescending and I didn’t appreciate that insinuation at all. Finally, she said she can offer us two seats at the end of a long table that was accompanied by a large party. We were not a part of their party and did not want to be at the same table with others we did not know. Needless to say we walked out without dining there and we will not return. This was a very degrading experience. I do not usually insinuate the race card, but I truly believe that’s what happed here, as they were clearly exhibiting behavior as if they did not want to serve us because we were...
Read moreMy wife and I recently went to the restaurant for the first time, sat in the bar area and were waited by Hogan. We had a delightful experience, the food was great and the service was amazing. Eve though the bar was extremely busy, Hogan made time to do his rounds and check on us. As a result, we promised to return in the near future.
I returned yesterday and sat at the bar, which was NOT busy. The waiter was a gentleman with a Mohawk hairstyle. He served me the first drink and everything went downhill from there. The service was horrendous. I initially ordered several plates from the sushi bar. The first plate came out fast. I then saw everything else waiting to be picked up at the sushi bar. I waited and waited at no avail. The other plates were eventually brought to me all at once, which was not a problem. One of the plates, the volcano role, should’ve had a warm topping and was cold to the touch from sitting on the counter before being brought to me. The waiter disappeared to socialize with others and I was left with empty plates on the counter, which I had to stack up myself. I must admit there was another waiter, a slender young man with a beard, that was not much help. Afterwards, I waited forever for my second drink and lost my appetite. I just wanted my check and leave.
The place has sooooo much potential. The food, both regular and sushi, is great. The bar is well stocked, but the service is definitely inconsistent! The rest of the bartenders need to learn from Hogan! This is the first time ever that I write a review on a restaurant, but I felt compelled to share both...
