We don’t live in Fort Lauderdale, but thought this would be fun to do while visiting. The staff said our daughter could check it out prior to deciding if she wanted to do it, and if not we could get a refund. My daughter did want to do it but there was a huge crowd of people on this particular day and she was shy about doing it in front of so many people, so we were going to come back at a later time in the evening and if there were fewer (or no) people we would do it then. Came back later that evening and there were still a lot of people but, if it was fewer people by her time, she was still down to do this. In the evening it was different desk staff and they now said that if she didn’t do it they would not refund the amount paid - but that we would receive a “voucher.” Explained that we don’t live here - we live on the other side of the country, but she gave no F’s and was not reasonable. It’s like “yeah we ARE actually going to steal your money, but hey! Policy amirite? F off! Lol).” That woman has a great future in politics if she chooses to pursue that… anyway…
This facility is actually pretty cool. Purpose built. Super clean, design well implemented. Way better than similar places I’ve seen in the past. It really could have been a perfect experience, but the desk staff was committed to making it annoying - and they were going to try to rip us off which is why it gets four instead of five stars. TBH, it should get 3 even now, but I’ll tell you how and why this turned around.
The guy that took this from one star to four is their employee/instructor Bryan. This guy was cool AF, personable, funny, and was really great with the two kids in the group (and the adults for that matter) in his flying group. He answered all of our dumb questions and took this from a 1-star bad experience to a pretty great and memorable one. Observing the other instructors, it appeared that they also were awesome with their groups as well. There was a guy that looked like Jacques Cousteau that was taking pictures with his flyers, etc. well after their flying time. These guys love what they do and it shows.
Just don’t let them run your card in advance prior to your flight time! Do not book and pay online regardless of what they tell you in person or on the phone because you may find yourself on the phone with your credit card company initiating a chargeback or being unnecessarily annoyed.
It’s not the money… it’s the principle. If your business is such that you need to lie to screw people out of their money, then you should probably reevaluate your business model. TBH, the place is really very cool in theory. I would have freely donated the amount in dispute if they were that hard up just to keep it open, but the desk staff’s bureaucratic condescending attitude was really...
Read moreI hosted a birthday party for my son at IFly after having flown in cruise. The nearest ifly is on this location and we live in miami over an hour away. I called in to let them know I was running about 20 mins late and that they could start setting up party guest to start. The girl on the phone was rude and unhelpful. She basically asked me what do you want me to do about it so I asked for her manager. I let him know we were gonna be late and to pls get all of the guest that wanted to fly a wrist band so they could stay. Within mins the ride girl called me back and said you have 13 flights (I paid over $5000 for 52 flights so she couldn’t start my group because she didn’t know who I wanted to fly 8 told her let everyone fly and that I was parking. I arrived no one had been set up to fly, as I am walking in with my hands full of goodie bags the same rude girl asks me to register to fly instead of helping out down the party goodie bags in our event space and than letting us register. I went to put things down, after telling her I’m standing there with my hands full and came back. The manager came out and we gathered 13 flyers. Some of the kids did not want their second flight and so we lost flights in the fist round which they did not allow someone else to use. The second round same thing, 13 people suited up, me included with my son the birthday boy and we got in the wind tunnel. As I was answering a party guest, the instructor yelled at me in front of my party in the tunnel I know this is your party but I’m here I’m the boss and ur not gonna talk, making everyone feel very uncomfortable. Once again 4 children chose not to fly again because they were scared of the unfriendly flying instructor and we lost 4 flights, I asked to replace them and he took it upon himself to choose the next people who would fly at my event without consulting me. I than went to asked for the photos and videos of the flying that were included in my event package and they told me they would email once I “leave”. I asked for my sons two gifts included and they said we didn’t have them, please see my contract email below stating these were included. I spent over 7k on this party and was EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED, the staff is rude and unhelpful. I would not recommend to anyone, don’t...
Read moreAbel was our flight instructor. He was funny, patient, knowledgeable, and full of energy and enthusiasm. He really pumped up the group! I felt completely safe in his hands (literally!). I was part of a huge group, and I saw him safely guide 10 people without any issues — and there were some pretty bad first-time flyers, myself included! — but he made sure none of us accidentally killed ourselves, constantly navigating us safely through the entire flight.
But I have to make an honorable mention for Trace. He was in the booth. Abel was a great instructor — but while you’re flying, you can’t see him or hear him (since he’s holding on to you). But you can see Trace in the booth. On my first flight, I panicked because I found it hard to breathe with the powerful wind in my face. Trace could see the panic in my eyes. He made gestures to remind me to breathe and stay relaxed. It helped me a lot that 1. He instantly knew what was “wrong” with me (which is a spectacular skill and great attention to detail!) and 2. Addressed it and immediately tried to put me at ease.
I almost chickened out and didn’t do my second flight. But I just reminded myself that Abel and Trace weren’t going to let anything happen to me. So the next time, I went in grinning (and remembered to breathe calmly) and just enjoyed myself!
That second flight had me itching for a third! Thanks, guys! I’ll never forget...
