I'm legitimately shocked that this place has as many positive reviews as it does. I don't even believe it - I've been to this establishment many times, giving it multiple chances because I really wanted to like it, I really did. The outdoor patio area is great and hip and it's in a really cool part of Dayton. However, every time that I visited, Fifth Street disappointed me even more. Their service is consistently awful - I've waited 20 minutes for a beer here before, despite the occasional friendly inquiry or question only to be met with a huff. Same thing for water - it was a very warm day on the patio and the place was not even crowded. The service became tolerable when I started ordering two beers at once, so I would have the second to drink after I finished the first and ordered the third (half the time the beers they brought us were warm anyway). Their beers are okay, but I would never choose any of them over most comparable styles from different breweries. Their food is average and overpriced, with the exception of their appetizer charcuterie plate, which sounded amazing on the menu but which ended up being literal pieces of lunch meat and crackers with a few cheese cubes. Sigh.
As I said, I wanted to like it. I'm retiring my willingness to keep trying Fifth Street. Overpriced, horrid service, average food, average beer. It's a shame - the atmosphere is cool and east Dayton could really use an establishment like this in a far superior iteration. Until then, I will continue to denigrate Fifth Street any time I am afforded the...
Read moreParking lot in the back, entered when it wasn't busy. Very friendly server, quick service, and a nice little place although their booth seat needs some TLC (it's all ripped and has a lot of tape).
Had cheese curd, veggie burger and their Noel brew.
For the brews, 5/5. I shared the large bottle eith fellow diner. Bottle was 18 I think. So not cheap, but high quality. This was not a typical Xmas ale - it's got a striking tart quality combined with a great xmas-type seasoning profile. I recommend it but not if you don't like a farmhouse-ale style.
Cheese curds were the best I've ever had. They list that they use an Ohio cheese producer and they are amazing. The breading was great but the cheese itself was a star, being velvetey and soft as opposed to your typical balls o rubber.
My burger and potatoes were alright. I'd say sverage on that - I do recommend being more liberal with the jalapenoes on the spicy burger. I do very much appreciate they subbed the meat burger for non-meat version. I think this matched the price.
I really like this place. A small cooperative focused on making high-quality drinks and serving it in a very welcoming environment. I was...
Read moreWe arrived with a bicycle group of 9 people. Came in straight to the outdoor patio. I went inside to use restroom and put on my mask being respectful and doing my duty. As I’m pulling it up someone jumps on me because evidently it wasn’t quick enough for them. Upon leaving the building (because I was outside and didn’t realize we had to wear them outside) I pulled mask down and walked the 15 feet to our table and upon arriving the waitress was rude and told me if I didn’t sit down without a mask on I had to leave. She then said this was the fourth time being told. It was really my first and on top of it there was only two other people there and they were at least ten feet away if not more. What she should have done BEFORE she was so rude was pull me a chair over since I hadn’t yet had a chance to find a seat. I’m sorry but I’m all about doing the right thing but treating your customers this way is unacceptable. Will never be back. Even in a pandemic there is no need to treat people this way. This is the totality of MY experience. No thanks. They never even gave me a chance to...
